“Path of Doom, Part 5,” by Dan
Jurgens and artist Stephen Segovia starts off with Lex Luthor in a
Superman robot like suit. Being a fan of Lex Luthor (I know, it's
odd), I was a little disappointed that he wasn't in much of this
comic. Since Doomsday has been destroying the city, Lex has changed
sides for the time being and is helping people. The one thing with
Lex's character is that even though he is the bad guy, he does care
about the people of Metropolis......just sometimes in a strange way
(okay ,most of the time).
Besides not having that much Lex, I
wish we saw super-powered Lois Lane more than just one page (Lois is
in more than just one page, but not with superpowers). One of my
favorite episodes of Lois and Clark was when Lois got Clark's
powers, so I was interested to see how this series was going to cover
it. Hopefully, in the next issue, we'll see some more super-powered
Lois Lane.
Meanwhile, upstate, Wonderowman and
Superman are battling Doomsday. One of the things that I've always liked about the Superman comics is that they can do what the movies and television hasn't done yet....create a great Doomsday vs Superman fight. Having Wonderwoman in the mix (until she takes Lois and Jon to somewhere safe) also makes the fight worth wild. She helps protect Lois and Jon, which is Superman's main concern. There is also a sweet moment between Lois and Clark, which I love because I ship (and always will) Lois and Clark.
The issue ends with....well we really
don't know who is there helping Superman defeat Doomsday. We're not
sure if they're here to help Superman or if they're after both
Doomsday and Superman and are just taking down Doomsday first.
Hopefully, the next issue will show us who they are and what they're
there for exactly.
The Verdict: This issue introduced a
lot of questions and a lot of characters that I hope we see more of
in the next issue. The Doomsday fight is up to par and I'm curious to
see what happens in the next issue.
