The Geekcap: 12 Monkeys "Blood Washed Away"

In January 1957, Cole and Cassie put together everything they know about the paradox. Since the paradox occurs on November 7th, they have about eleven months to locate the primary at the Maxwell Rigfield factory or at the very least stop the messenger. To achieve that, they both get jobs at the factory to sift through the more than 200 workers to find who could be a messenger or a primary. In eleven months, both Cole and Cassie find a suspect in a doodling employee and a forceful executive. However, Cole confronts the employee who reveals to only be doodling women instead of monkeys while Cassie, on a date with the executive, finds that he is only a pervert. With every worker narrowed down, they find that they have no suspects with only two days before the paradox.

With the limited amount of time left, Cole and Cassie argue over whether or not the employees were checked carefully. Cassie questions Cole’s judgement with the employees while Cole fires back that she may be enjoying her position too well, especially since she cannot recognize if any of them looked like one of the messengers. Cassie tells him to stop saying something he may regret. Cole, to his part, leaves before he can finish.

Cole makes his way to the bar where he finds a fellow co-worker named Charlie. Charlie admits that his wife asked him to leave her alone for a while after a day of chemotherapy. Her hair has already begun to fall out, and Charlie implies that her time is not looking well. Meanwhile, he only believes that Cole is paranoid about one of the co-workers being a commie. He suggests Cole go back to Cassie, though Cole insists that their relationship is not like that. Nevertheless, Charlie tells him that there is no point in stopping from being together. From his own experience with his wife, he informs Cole that the first thing he would want is more time together.

Cole: There's never enough time.

Cole then returns to the hotel room while Cassie is on the phone. She informs him that after taking part in the company’s party line, she’s learned that the drainage system is in need of repairs. In order to do that, they will be hiring day workers over the next few days, one of which could be their primary. After informing him, Cassie then apologizes for their tension over the past few months. While she has hoped that Ramse would come through for them by finding Titan and killing the Witness, it’s too late to hope in that now. With two days left, they have no time.

In 2044, Ramse, Whitley, Deacon, and the Daughters take part in a gun war against a group of shooters. Chaos breaks out as one of the Daughters takes a bullet to protect Jennifer and slowly dies. Jennifer cradles her body and murmurs musings to the woman as the fight continues. After a bloody battle, most of the shooters, as well as a few Daughters, are dead. Ramse confronts one of the shooters who is a member of a group called the Bleeders, scavengers who shoot and eat anyone who comes their way. Ramse interrogates the man on Titan, which should be located only thirty miles west of their location. The man reveals that they sent a scout over in that direction, but he never returned. With no more information, Ramse kills the man as the Daughters regroup. The Daughters’ lieutenant tries to move Jennifer, but Jennifer is still shocked that one of them had died for her. Whitley ascertains that they have a day before the red storm catches up with them, but Ramse is determined to continue without rest. Descon comes to lead out the Duaghters, though many of them are distrustful of him. Jennifer rebukes the women for being shifty towards Deacon, but the lieutenant responds that, unlike their old mother, this Jennifer spouts nonsense.

At night, the group pools their resources. Despite coming across the Bleeders, they have little food to survive. In the distance, a horse arrives with Hannah returning from the scout mission. Unfortunately, she reveals that Titan was not there. With their mission coming to a dead end, the Daughters begin to rebel against the men since they have already lost two of their own. Ramse fires back that they would have nowhere else to go with the storm at their heels and calls for Jennifer to control the women. However, the lieutenant denounces Jennifer as their leader and challenges Ramse to a fight. The two struggle against one another until Ramse finally gets the upper hand. Before he slits her throat, Jennifer intercedes, begging him to stop killing. The Daughters take her lead by acknowledging that the lieutenant chose to fight. Ramse, for his part, spares her life.

In 1957, an executive goes over the day workers for the drainage system. From there, Cole notices one of them, a man named Reginald Dupuy, muttering to himself. Cole convinces the executive to let him supervise the workers while claiming that he knows Dupuy to throw suspicion away from Charlie. Before he goes to the roof, however, Cole informs Cassie that he may have found the primary in Dupuy. Cassie advises him to do what he has to in order to prevent the paradox. On the roof, Cole talks with Dupuy. Meanwhile, Cassie searches through files in order to learn about Dupuy. The pervert executive confronts her on taking files, leading Cassie to secretly smuggle Dupuy’s file. Cole further presses Dupuy on his knowledge on primaries, paradoxes, red forests, monkeys, or time. At first, Dupuy seems to respond to time but instead states it is time for him to go.

At the hotel, Cole confirms to Cassie that he believes that Dupuy is a primary. Cassie reveals that behind Dupuy’s file is a drawing of a monkey. He is the primary.

As the storm approaches closer, Ramse and Whitley go over their map once again, finding the coordinates to Titan. Although Hannah states that she saw nothing, Ramse and Whitley believe that there was a chance that she took a wrong path with a faulty tracking system. Now they have a clear destination. Jennifer, however, argues for Hannah to stay out of the journey after the previous deaths. Hannah states that she wants to follow her advice, but Jennifer rebukes her own leadership, revealing her words of wisdom are only phrases from fortune cookies. She admits that she has none of the experience of her older self, and, after seeing this group, she’s not sure if she wants that leadership. With that in mind, however, she can’t let the Daughters die for her decision. Hannah nevertheless rejects the offer, stating that she had taught them to be willing to give their lives for each other. Now, she will do the same for the group.

Jennifer: Spoiler alert! I'm not wise old me, am I? And if I'm being frank, my daughters are assholes! Knife fights, ridiculous eye shadow, and serious, serious mommy issues.

In 1957, Cole and Cassie then return the factory on the day of the paradox to find Reginald. Despite Cassie’s concern, Cole insists that he can handle this situation and will return to the hotel if things go south. Cole leads the man away from the factory down an alley at gunpoint to ensure the people’s safety while Cassie remains in the office. At that time, though, a woman walks into the factory carrying a box and a gun. The news reaches the office, leading Cassie to take her own gun to confront what she believes could be the messenger.

Cole confronts Reginald revealing that he is aware of him being a primary. In the factory, Cassie confronts the woman, asking what she wants. The woman replies that she wants to see her husband. Reginald then admits to Cole that took money from a man to react to Cole, leading Cole to realize that the messenger is someone in the factory.

At the factory, the woman’s husband arrives to find her: Charlie. Charlie reveals that he is one of the messengers while his wife Melinda was one of the primaries. Although Charlie was sent to paradox Melinda, he found that he had fallen in love with her, leaving him conflicted whether to kill her. He also reveals that he had killed the fellow messenger who traveled with him, admitting that not everything the Witness said was true. Inside the box turns out to be the bone of the primary, ready to cause the paradox. His wife reaffirms him that she knows today is the day that she will die and reassures him that they will meet each other again in the red forest. Cole arrives to see Charlie, but Charlie tells Cole that he of all people would understand. Charlie stabs his wife, causing the massive paradox.

Ramse, Deacon, Adler, and Hannah walk through the woods following the coordinates to Titan. After a decent time of walking, they see the outline of a city on the horizon, something that wasn’t there earlier: Titan.

In 1957, doctors look over Cassie in a hospital. After nineteen days, she has still not awoken from her coma, and they are unsure if she will wake up at all. When the doctors leave, Cole, who now sports a broken arm, approaches the bed and speaks to Cassie. Though he knows she can’t hear him, he apologizes for the pain he has put her through and being unable to stop the paradox. He tells her that the best thing she can do now is wake up and forget she knew him. He softly kisses her on the forehead and then leaves her.

Cassie, in her coma, dreams about the house in the red forest. She suddenly wakes up in the hospital as the doctors tend to her. They inform her that they doubted she would wake up, but she instead asks about Cole. They tell her that they haven’t treated anyone from the explosion in six months, and it is now 1958.

Cassie returns to the hotel to find the room completely cleared of anything from Cole. She is now completely alone. With no other plans, Cassie returns to the medical field and, in six months, is in the process of completing course to re-earn her doctorate. Although she is only referred to as a nurse, doctors continually come to her for advice with advance knowledge of certain cases such as “Lyme disease.”

In 1959, Cassie continues to make her life while still musing on Cole’s whereabouts to the point of looking back when a man orders a whiskey sour. Once she returns to her room, however, a bellboy informs her that he has located an address for the name that she had given him: Morris Morrison. He is located on 10 Old Pines Road in Binghamton, New York which is a driving distance away from the hotel. Once she arrives at that address, though, she is shocked to see the same house of cedar and pine from her dream.

Cole is in the back of the house sawing pieces of wood before accidently sawing part of his finger, leading to drops of blood landing on the grass. Cassie finally confronts him on where he’s been as she notices his wound. He admits that he found this place with a for sale sign while driving around one day. Now she can be safe from the plague and any red forests. Cassie remarks that they can’t run away from the future, but Cole responds that there isn’t anything else they can do. She just believes that means he was afraid. Suddenly, it begins to rain, another event that triggers Cassie’s memory of the cabin. Regardless, she leads him inside to treat his wound.

Cassie washes the blood off his hand and begins to wander around the cabin. She then recognizes the main room and grandfather clock from being taken over by the Witness. She informs Cole that the Army of the Twelve Monkeys as well as the Witness were aware of this place and this moment.

The group then enters Titan, each one on edge expecting someone to emerge. As they keep walking, old-fashioned music begins playing in the distance. Against better judgement, Ramse leads the group in the direction of the music. Through that direction, they find a circle of symbols surrounding a figure. That figure is the Witness.

Cassie: You coward, you know that's not why you left me. You left me because you're in love with me. I've always known, Cole.

Cole reiterates to Cassie that she can be free now, but Cassie reminds him that she is still meant to die at the CDC in 2018. Cole tells her to forget about that destiny since he would rather choose to have hope in Ramse than attach to an already failed plan. She insists on leaving, but he admits that the reason he left in the first place was to protect her. Cassie fires back that she knows why he did it: he is in love with her. She has known for some time. He tells her that now, with no backup plan and no primaries, she has nothing left to lose. Cassie then finally consummates her relationship with Cole by kissing him which leads to them having sex in the bedroom.

At Titan, the group is then surrounded by guards for the Witness who wield katar blades. Each one stabs Ramse, Whitley, Hannah, and Ramse as the Witness survives.

The Geekcap: Killjoys "Wild, Wild Westerly"

On the ship, Dutch watches her reflection. As she kneels to pick up something, her reflection stays in place. She watches, haunted, until D’avin comes to ask her what’s wrong. She replies nothing and instead asks him if he’s sure that the girl he saw on Arkyn was her. He answers that he’s sure since he knows her. Fortunately, he reminds her, once they find Alvis, who knows about Scarback history, they can hopefully learn more about what D’avin saw. Dutch simply tells him that it’s good to have the team back together.

Dutch, John, and D’avin travel to the RAC where they anxiously await a meeting for a warrant. John fears that, with the loss of Khlyen and Turin as heads, the place is now run by Sixes who are aware of what they have done on Arkyn. To their surprise, however, Turin approaches the group. The three tackle him, believing him to be another Level 6, but Turin reveals the stitches from Khlyen’s stabbing. He had survived Khlyen’s attack and has taken back control of the RAC in hopes of rebuilding their neutrality. However, he is less trusting of Dutch’s claim that she doesn’t work for Khlyen anymore. Nevertheless, when Dutch asks Turin to add D’avin back to the team, he complies with their request. In addition, the team requests a warrant in Old Town to examine the area. Turin reveals that there is only one warrant for Old Town, something they may not like.

The three along with Pree travel to Westerly where they find a large wall surrounding Old Town. Dutch announces to anyone who hears that they are Reclamation agents there for a warrant, but no one answers. Instead, the wall seems to scan the group where they stand. The scan, however, sounds an alarm upon finding Pree, whose crimes include being an old warlord. Almost immediately, the four are knocked out before returning to Lucy.

John: I love you, Wall.

The group wake up dangling from the ceiling in a new, more peaceful area as they are spoken to by Company guards. One in particular, Liam Jelco, asks what they are doing there, revealing them to be in a Company-built dome known as Spring Hill. Dutch insists that they are Killjoys, but Jelco questions why they have a former felon on their team. Dutch easily breaks free from her restraints, giving Jelco the motivation to release the group for their warrant, provided that Pree be kept in the meantime.

Jelco explains that some time ago a Company had crashed into the “Westhole” prison, releasing eight prisoners from the blue unit of dangerous political prisoners. All eight escapees are their warrant, focusing on one in particular Tarren Tighmon. Tighmon was originally the head of a minors’ union before he decided to rebel against the Company and shoot down their representatives. With their warrant clarified, the group head to what is left of Old Town.

At the center of Old Town, the people live in pain and poverty with body bags littering the streets. In the distance, they hear music coming from the Royale which they check first for Pree’s benefit. There, they find a new man named Gared running the place with most of the citizens gathering for a drink. Dutch orders D’avin to search the upper levels for Pawter or Alvis while John searches the ground for the warrants, believing that an escaped prisoner would want to have a drink or sex. Meanwhile, she distracts the bartender by goading him into a fight. When John locates one of the escapees, Dutch then easily incapacitates the man by knocking him down and breaking his leg. Dutch and John corner the prisoner who understands why they are after him. Threatening himself at gunpoint, he warns the two that the remaining prisoners are held up at Westhole Prison where they are waiting to take on the group. With that said, the prisoner shoots himself before he is taken back. D’avin returns, stating that he didn’t find Pawter or Alvis before he is filled in on the reveal. Pree volunteers to stay behind at the bar to search for Pawter and Alvis while the Killjoys plan to take on the prisoners.

At Westhole Prison, Dutch, John, and D’avin sneak carefully around the corners anticipating an ambush. Instead, they come across a rotting smell, coming from mummified corpses in prison cells. Suddenly, they come across a bright light and order whoever is on the other side to stand down since they are Killjoys. The figure turns out to be a man named Karl wearing a hazmat suit who is extremely grateful at the Killjoys’ arrival. He has been hiding since the prison outbreak and, in the case of that emergency, pushed the red button which caused the mummification through a Company gas. Six of the escaped prisoners were killed on the impact, but Tighmon escaped with most of their weapons as well as a tank of the poisonous gas.

The three report back to Jelco on the news of Tighmon controlling a tank of poisonous gas, but Jelco is less than compassionate. They implore him to help evacuate Old Town for the safety of the citizens, but Jelco refuses to let anyone leave the town and changes his warrant to a kill order to protect the image of the Company. Dutch fires back that they do not work for the Company as John reminds him that they have a lead on Tighmon and can still capture him. Jelco still orders the group to handle the situation if they want to leave Old Town. To help with their lead, they decide to take one of the mummified bodies and consult Pawter, who has been held up in the tenements taking care of ailing citizens.

Pawter greets the group less enthusiastically as she reveals that she is running low on medical supplies. With the Company refusing to assist, their problems will most certainly get worse. Quickly, John requests Pawter examine the mummified body to ascertain what happened. She reveals that the body was generally drained of its water through the gas with the only real solution being forcing the body, on contact, to drink a lake’s worth to replenish it. Fortunately, she can take them to a Company officer who would know more than her.

Pawter: Last week, a guy came in carrying his own intestines, but if it makes you feel better "ooh, a mummy. So messed up."

In a back room, Pawter takes them to Hills Oonan, the Company officer who warned them about the bombing. With his connection to the Company, all of Old Town is out for his blood. Pawter has been keeping him hidden from sight. Hills, however, does recognizes the gas as a development of the Company as well as Liam Jelco, who is not above extraction and torture to get the Company’s way. With the citizens of Old Town at stake, John advises Pawter to contact her mother on Qresh for help. One of the members of the Nine can surely convince the Company to act. Pawter ignores that idea, believing her estranged family connections would not help. Fortunately, Hills reveals that Alvis and Tighmon have a connection, one that can hopefully convince the prisoner to speak with them. Unfortunately, the Company has been spreading stories claiming that Alvis was responsible for the bombing, hoping the citizens can take of him from inspiring an uprising. Because of that, Alvis has also been hiding and likely taking a darker path.

The group find Alvis in an alleyway as he is being attacked by another citizen. Dutch drives the man away before confronting Alvis, who reveals he has purposefully been getting into fights to procure meds for Pawter. While Dutch berates him for being so reckless, she replies that it’s good to see him again. More importantly, she needs a favor.

Meanwhile, back at the tenements, Gared approaches Pawter for some painkillers following his injured leg. Pawter attempts to give him some, but the man then threatens her with a knife for the whole bottle. Fighting back, Pawter stomps on his broken leg, crumpling him to the ground.

The group plus Alvis approach a building where Alvis asks to speak with Tighmon. Another man opens the door and agrees to pass the message. Alvis explains that Tighmon has gathered the older members of the minors’ unions to help him in the town. With a bomb that could threaten the town, however, he could be a threat. Suddenly, Tighmon appears above the group, stating that he will meet with Alvis and Dutch but not the Jaqobis brothers. D’avin objects at first, but Dutch states that she will keep her comm on for them to hear the conversation.

Once inside, Tighmon then divulges his negotiation with the Company. If he turns in the tank with the poisonous gas, the Company must allow him, his family, and his workers’ families outside the wall. Dutch responds as she did for Jelco, claiming that she doesn’t work for the Company, but he fires back that someone has to represent them. He also admonishes Alvis for being a Scarback but doing nothing to improve the lives of the people in Old Town. Nevertheless, they also remind Tighmon that there are plenty of other people in Old Town who need help besides the minors and their families. Tighmon sticks to his terms, believing that this can be a way to force out the Company. Before they can act, however, a Company drone shoots Tighmon from a window, killing the man. Dutch and Alvis escape in the chaos with the tank to meet with John and D’avin. D’avin wonders how a Company drone could have found them, but Dutch notices that the three of them have been marked with tracking devices, allowing Jelco to find Tighmon himself.

Meanwhile, Pawter confronts Hills on the situation in the tenements. With things getting worse, Pawter reveals John’s suggestion of contacting her mother for help from one of the Nine. Hills suggests she follow John’s advice, though Pawter is uncertain what could happen. He then reminds her how they have put their faith in each other, despite landing them in Westhole. She needs to put her faith in family name for the sake of Old Town since one doctor cannot take care of everyone.

Dutch confronts Jelco on sending the drone to take out Tighmon, but Jelco replies that he was just doing their job for them. Now, all he needs is the tank. Dutch refuses to give into his demands, leading Jelco to send out a new warrant to the town. He sends out a broadcast with a reward for safe passage out of Old Town for the price of turning in both the canister of poisonous gas and Dutch in custody. With the town turned against them, the group runs.

They return to the Royale where Dutch removes their trackers to avoid the Company. With the Company controlling the wall around the city, however, they have no place to go. Alvis then remarks that instead of trying to go through the wall, they could try going under it through the tunnels. Pree leads them back to the escape route under the Royale to help the group. However, he refuses to leave the bar a second time.

At the Spring Hill Compound, Hills and Pawter approach Jelco for Pawter’s request. Jelco, however, remarks that Hills did not follow orders regarding the bombing. While he warmly regards Pawter’s background, he refuses her request to speak with her mother to leave for Qresh, stating that Hills should have simply informed her to leave before the bombing. Instead, Hills used the opportunity to warn the people for a chance of survival. Hills fires back that he chose to save others which in turn saved himself. In response, Jelco shoots Hills. As Pawter kneels at Hills’ body, Jelco reassures her that she will be protected, just as Pawter notices the cameras catching her move.

Hills: I saved people. And in saving them, I saved myself.

The group move through the tunnels where Alvis believes he can find a way to the Spring Hill Compounds through the air filtration system. However, he acknowledges that after leaving Old Town, there would be no place for him. Dutch remarks that he can go to Arkyn as a Scarback, but Alvis reveals that Scarbacks have not been present on Arkyn for 200 years. Before they can press further, Alvis locks them out of the air filtration room as he begins to tamper with it himself. Taking Tighmon’s words to heart, Alvis wants to finally strike out against the Company, using the gas to kill everyone in the Spring Hill Compound. Once he nearly sets the machine, John reminds Alvis that Pawter and Hills are still at the compound, putting them in danger. Alvis attempts to reverse the machine but comes into contact with the gas in the process, slowly draining him.

John manage to unlock the door, leading D’avin and Dutch to grab hold of Alvis and try to save him. Remembering Pawter’s comment about water, D’avin and Dutch dunk Alvis into a nearby tank of water to replenish his fluids. After a few moments submerged, the two pull Alvis out, hoping to save him from drowning. Alvis remains unresponsive, so Dutch and D’avin each attempt to resuscitate him. Finally, Alvis breathes and coughs up water. Dutch slaps him across the face, but he is otherwise fine.

The Killjoys then return the tank to Jelco, finally completing their warrant for the Company. With nothing left to do with him, they finally question why Jelco continues to hold Old Town hostage behind a wall. Jelco reveals that since the rebels attacked Qresh, the Nine have looked significantly weaker. With Old Town, he can demonstrate to the Quad what happens to traitors as the whole event is televised. Once the people of Old Town sees the company as a force for good to provide them with food, water, and work, he states the Wall will come down. The group nevertheless states that they refuse to leave without Hills or Pawter. Jelco claims that Hills has come down with a headache, but he permits the group to say their goodbyes to Pawter, who has agreed to stay with the Company to benefit the public. Before they leave, John responds by kissing her to the surprise of Dutch and D’avin. As they truly leave, however, he reveals that he left a comms device on Pawter, giving her a chance to signal them if she needs their help.

Back at the Royale, Pree keeps up the morale of the people in Old Town. Gared comes over to request a drink and questions how Pree can keep up the place. Pree remarks that the Royale is the heart of the town with the people as its lifeblood. Not avoiding revenge, however, Pree stabs Gared in the hand before declaring happy hour to go on through the night.

On Lucy, Dutch speaks to Alvis about what he almost did. He admits that after what happened to Old Town, he was seeking revenge and wandering lost. Returning to this team, Dutch gives him the chance to revive himself by helping them with their mystery on Arkyn. With him, they can hopefully find the truth. Before they try, Lucy is overridden as the ship changes course for Westerly. With the sudden powerful overtake of their systems, they fear Khlyen has found them.

The ship lands on Westerly where Dutch, D’avin, and John leave to scout the area. Instead of finding Khlyen, however, they are surprised to see Turin utilizing a beacon. He reveals that the RAC is indeed compromised from the inside. He no longer knows who to trust since the Level 6 has taken over with no clear goal. The three initially don’t believe him, but he reveals that he knows about Red 17 and admits that the place has been bombed following their escape. With that angle gone, Turin offers them another deal. He will give them leads and warrants to explore that he cannot in exchange for them learning more about Level 6. With Turin being watched, they have no choice but to listen to his deal.

• Pree's full name is revealed to be Prima Dezz. According to the report, he previously had blond hair and is approximately 38 years old. He is reported to have committed crimes including being a warlord.
• The tunnel "Team Awesome Force" and Alvis take to Spring Hill is the same tunnel used by the citizens of Old Town to survive the bombing.

The Geekcap: Killjoys "Dutch and the Real Girl"

 Across space, Dutch vows to search for D’avin before we quickly move to Dutch, John, and D’avin uncaptured sneaking onto Red 17, the place where Khlyen took D’avin. The three sneak in and take out the guards before they are met up with Fancy. D’avin is surprised to see Fancy on their side, though he reminds him that he had saved his life. D’avin, for his part, cannot remember why he distrusts Fancy. The group then stop at the room where they kept D’avin captive. John attempts to break through the door when D’avin asks Dutch how they found him. She explains they traced a signal through his comms where he was found in the open. D’avin questions this story, believing there is a chance he was released as a trap for the others. Dutch agrees it was a trap but states that it can only be a trap if they were unaware of it. Now, they are fighting head on. In the spur of the moment, D’avin swoops Dutch into his arms for a longing kiss as sparks fly behind them.

It is then revealed that the mission is only a dream constructed by D’avin as he is being experimented on in Red 17. The scientists notice his dreams as he begins to hum. They then inject him with more chemicals causing him to holler in pain.

Across space, Dutch shoots up from her bed as if hearing his cry. John then enters to tell her to prepare to rescue D’avin. He explains that they have found the location of Red 17 on Arkyn. The two, along with a tagalong Pree, circle the world on Lucy as John sends off a probe to locate D’avin’s location. However, the probe explodes upon entering the world’s atmosphere. John discovers that the atmosphere is coated with a radioactive defense layer, something their machines can’t survive. John suggests assessing what to do next, but Dutch reminds him that D’avin has been taken for five days now. They cannot afford to wait any longer. Dutch then takes control of Lucy and flies directly into the layer, believing at some point to break through the radiation. The defense keeps penetrating the system, nearly tearing the ship apart until Lucy overrides the manual controls. The ship flies away from Arkyn.

John confronts Dutch about her rash move. Dutch reminds him that every angle they have chased has led to Arkyn, but John replies that she nearly risked their lives to rescue D’avin. They cannot rescue him if they themselves are dead. Dutch solemnly agrees but remarks that someone had to have escaped from Arkyn before them. John believes he has an idea.

Dutch: You look thinky.

The group travels to Leith Bazaar where they speak with Bellus who provides them with information about the Conorver gang. Led by Abel Conorver and her brothers, they have excelled in technological piracy by stealing materials and making a quick escape, likely landing on Arkyn with a device to allow them to pass the barrier. Dutch presses Bellus with information on the device, leading Bellus to reveal she placed a live-or-dead warrant for the person carrying the technology. However, when she sent an agent out to retrieve it, he never returned. She then reveals that the location of the device is at a place called Eulogy, a renowned casino where the main requirements are to be a criminal carrying stolen goods. Although it could be dangerous to partake in criminal bargaining for what they want, Bellus sees that they have an expert for their help: Pree.

John, Dutch, and Pree travel to the White Sands of Westerly where they find Eulogy, the criminal casino. Pree explains the policy around the place, though John is more curious as to what Pree has done to earn a place among criminals. John and Pree walk in under aliases with a trunk full of supposedly stolen weapons valued at 15,000 joy. Though the guard is wary of John, Pree assures them that he can vouch for his sake. Unbeknownst to the guards, however, Dutch has hidden herself within the trunk to search for the device herself.

Back at Red 17, D’avin dreams of being in vacant, cavernous area on Arkyn. He calls out for help from Dutch or John, but no one comes. He then walks around and finds a man on the ground pleading to be spared. D’avin approaches the man, but the pleading figure is then taken by two other men seemingly from nowhere. He leaves behind a green ooze.

At Eulogy, John and Pree continue to gamble as Dutch sneaks around the building. Using a device implanted in her lenses by John, Dutch is able to locate the device through the various clutter. According to John, the device could help them by absorbing the radiation of the barrier, allowing her to look for a red signal. Unfortunately for her, the device is behind a locked door. In order to break into the place’s system, John fakes an argument between himself and Pree by calling his mother a bitch. This insult halts the entire room, allowing John to sneak a chip into the machine to let Lucy operate a system takeover. While the place experiences electrical problems, Dutch sneaks through the locked door to find the device. There she finds something else blocking the device: a woman chained to the wall holding a gun.

In D’avin’s dream, he follows the figures taking the man to a crowd of Scarbacks in chaos. Everywhere, the people keep fighting until D’avin spots Khlyen in the fight. Khlyen is surprised to see that D’avin has made it that far, telling him he isn’t supposed to see this. The scarbacks start bleeding the green substance. Suddenly, D’avin wakes and sits up in the lab, forcing the green substance away from his body. The men react in shock. This has never happened. D’avin demands to know what they are doing to him.

Dutch approaches the woman, trying to explain that she only came for the shield to sneak into Arkyn. Dutch then recognizes that the woman’s gun likely doesn’t have bullets if she is still chained to a wall. The woman explains that the Conorvers implanted the device inside of her to ensure that it would be protected. The electrical system begins to falter as the guards detect Lucy in the system. John and Pree are forced to move through the system old-school to find Dutch and escape through the elevator. Dutch promises the woman that she will get her to Arkyn if she tries to help. The woman agrees, as long as she brings Alice, her good arm. The two are ambushed by guards until the woman pulls out Alice, her gun-loaded arm to fight off the men to the elevator. John and Pree arrive for backup just as the woman makes a finishing blow. However, she is shot down by a retreating soldier. John and Dutch take her still-breathing body to the elevator where Pree has another idea of escape. He takes the group to the top of the casino where Lucy is waiting for their escape.

Pree: All locked and cocked. Let's give these bitches some stitches. What? I rhyme when I'm nervous. 

At Red 17, Khlyen and the scientists discuss what happened with D’avin. Not only did he seem to resist the substance, his body appeared immune to it altogether. Now that he is free, D’avin fights back against his guards and the men, including Khlyen. He manages to stab Khlyen who is shocked that the wound isn’t healing. At a turn of events, however, Khlyen shoots the men around them to corner D’avin himself. D’avin asks what happened to him, but Khlyen offers him a chance to escape with him. If not, D’avin will surely be killed.

On Lucy, John examines the woman’s technology which shocks her awake. He fills her in on their escape but admits he had to examine her modifications, revealing the woman to be a HackMod or a modified human wanted by immigration. He assures her that, as Killjoys, they don’t care about her history. That’s when Dutch arrives to ask her name. The woman, named Clara, explains that she was kidnapped by the Conorver gang and sent to the Factory where they modify humans past the legal limit. Once they discovered the shield was wanted, they placed it inside her and took her arm to force her to defend it. If she were to fight back, the gang electrocutes her into submission. Nevertheless, Clara is not one to give up a fight. She agrees to use the shield to take Lucy to Arkyn as part of her deal, but John maintains that she should get some rest. Dutch reminds him that Khlyen could be killing D’avin at this moment.

As D’avin and Khylen sneak through the lab, Khlyen reveals his motives. He had planned to modify D’avin to be Level 6 when he would be sent back to Dutch. D’avin would have been stronger but loyal to Khlyen. However, Khlyen also maintains that it was for her protection as something worse is likely to come after the group. Without all the answers, D’avin is forced to follow him.

John then explains to Dutch that if they were to use the shield it would likely pose deadly threat to Clara after seeing her tech. Dutch asks him to take it out of her, but John admits that the Conorvers rigged her technology to explode should anyone try to tamper with Clara. However, the only alternative is to leave D’avin at the mercy of Khlyen. The last time the two had this situation, Dutch’s husband was murdered. Clara overhears the conversation and asks about Khlyen. Dutch admits that Khlyen trained her to be an assassin before she escaped with John, and now he has returned taking John’s brother hostage. Clara understands Dutch’s motives, seeing Khlyen as Dutch’s Conorvers, and offers to take them to Arkyn now. John protests on the damage it could do, but Clara insists on helping. She reveals that her own family of brothers neglected to save her, so she must help the people who did. In exchange, Dutch offers to help burn down the Factory anytime she needs.

Clarac takes control of Lucy and attaches her shield to the mainframe. The ship then flies to Arkyn where Clara takes the full force of the radiation. Once they hit the planet, Lucy easily tracks D’avin’s comms link for them to search. Clara, winded but otherwise fine, warns them that the people there are sure to find them after they’ve landed. Dutch and John prepare to leave as Pree and Lucy tend to Clara.

At Red 17, Khlyen works in the system using the green substance to erase traces of D’avin from their records. Then, D’avin notices the symbol on the ground from his dreams. Khlyen informs him that those were not dreams but old memories. A guard arrives and shoots at Khlyen, but D’avin fights them off. Before his eyes, Khlyen’s wound heals almost instantly since he is Level 6. Quickly, Khlyen informs him that the Black Root is arriving, which means D’avin must escape. He asks D’avin if he is prepared to die for Dutch. D’avin states that he would die for both Dutch and John if necessary. Khlyne then pushes him out the building and informs him that Dutch is on the planet looking for him. He must get her off Arkyn. D’avin warns that Dutch would never leave if she learned Khlyen was on Arkyn. Because of that, Khlyen advises him to lie.

Dutch and John sneak into Red 17 where they find Fancy captured. John releases him who warns them to evacuate D’avin. Lucy sends John D’avin’s coordinates as the three leave the building. Meanwhile, members of the Black Root seem to subdue and take Khlyen.

Outside on Arkyn, the three find a wounded D’avin and joyfully reunite. Dutch informs them to return to Lucy while she searches for Khlyen. D’avin, however, tells her that Khlyen had escaped where he barely survived himself. The best they can do now is leave. Dutch then takes D’avin as the group returns to Lucy. Before they take off, though, D’avin shoots at Fancy to the shock of the team. D’avin explains as Fancy stands back up that Fancy was turned into Level 6. They have lost him. The group shoots Fancy off of Lucy as they escape Arkyn.

As a test, John and Dutch stab D’avin to prove that he has not been turned with a bloody hand. D’avin advises them to return to Old Town to check for sure, but John informs him the truth. Old Town had been bombed by the Company and now contains a fence around the borders with no one getting in or out of the city. Despite this destruction, Dutch tells D’avin that their next plan is to enter into Old Town to find Pawter and Alvis to escape, if they survived.

Lucy lands on Leith where Clara begins collecting her things as well as John’s tools. John tells her that she can stay, but Clara informs him that as a HackMod she would put the team in danger from being hunted in the Quad. John believes that if they can get her to Pawter in Old Town they could fix her modifications, but Clara refuses. Although she hates the Conovers for what they did, the modifications are a part of her now. Moreover, she understands that the team has a warrant on her. However, John informs her that the warrant was for the person or persons carrying the device. Clara, being more than 26% modified, does not qualify as a person under the Quad’s rules. With Dutch’s help, they plan to smuggle her out on Leith. Clara then says a warmer goodbye to John and tells Lucy to keep her number.

Lucy: I like that one John. Couldn't we keep her?

John: That's not how it works Lucy. Not even a little how it works.

Dutch sits alone on the ship when John gives her a drink. D’avin admits that he had lied about Khlyen’s escape, but Dutch admits that she knew. She only left because John and D’avin needed her more. Since D’avin was captured, she realizes that she needs to keep the team safe more than exact her revenge. D’avin then admits that he doesn’t believe that Khlyen is their real enemy. Perhaps, he believes, there is another level above him on the RAC.

As they discuss this, the Black Root take Khlyen’s body before they are murdered by Fancy. Fancy then keeps watch over the case.

D’avin admits that he believes that Khlyen is likely protecting Dutch from their real enemy whoever that may be. Dutch fires back that whatever the Rack have planned, Khlyen is still a part of it, meaning they can’t trust him. D’avin, however, adds that in his memory he saw another figure among the Scarbacks: Dutch.

The Geekcap: 12 Monkeys "Resurrection"

 An older Jennifer Goines burns the remains of his past including a newspaper of her breakout, her old identification, and a drawing of a monkey. Hannah rushes in and demands to know why she isn’t doing anything for the group during the storm’s descent. Jennifer simply muses that this is the end of the beginning, another cycle. Hannah pleads with Jennifer to lead them out from this storm rather than wait for Cole, but Jennifer replies that there are many endings. This is one of them.

Jones tells Cole that they only have about six or seven hours before the facility itself is engulfed by the storm. Cole offers to splinter away immediately, but Jones remarks that would have no way to predict where he would land at that time. At this point, she states that they are moving more on hope than calculations which may have been prevented by a better physicist. Cole reassures her that he trusts in her abilities. Using a reluctant Dr. Lasky, they find that they can make a calculated jump in approximately six hours, right when the storm would be upon them. Though Jones is aware of the situation, she notes that it was Adler who was more versed in setting locations. Meanwhile, a figure breaks Ramse and Adler out from their rooms.

Jones: The worst thing about betrayal is that it never comes from one's enemies.

Ramse and Adler meet up with Cassie, revealing that there are other members of the military who have lost their faith in Jones. With the piece of the map that Ramse ripped, Adler traces the location of Titan to Colorado. He theorizes that he could use the machine to splinter Ramse and Cassie almost instantly to that spot. There, Ramse believes that they can exact their revenge and use the Witness’s form of time travel to escape, hopefully undoing everything that he has done. Cassie asks about what they should do about Cole, but Ramse instead insists that they shouldn’t bet on Cole being on their side. Cassie wonders what should happen if they are wrong. Ramse approaches her and asks if she’s sure the Witness is in Titan. Remembering her vision, Cassie replies yes. Ramse tells her that she can’t think twice on that belief.

The military and scientists pack up the evidence in hopes of evacuating, though they are still unsure about what to do with Cassie, Ramse, and Adler. Suddenly, one of their soldiers is shot, bleeding out in the hall. With the situation critical, they require the help of a doctor: Cassie. Cassie tends to the soldier’s wounds, though she remarks it is only delaying the inevitable. Cole offers Cassie a chance to go back to 1957 with him, but Cassie responds that he is only running away from the real problem. Cole claims that Cassie is only shutting him and everyone out, truly running away. They are interrupted by another shot in the hall. Unable to trust her, Cole handcuffs Cassie to a table as he goes to explore what the noise was.

In the hall, Cole confronts Ramse at gunpoint as they stand at odds with each other. Ramse reveals that they are after the time machine against Jones and Cole’s wishes. Cole warns his old friend that this move could lead to the deaths of everyone in the facility, but Ramse replies that he’s already dead. Cole, who no longer has a family, couldn’t understand. Cole retorts that he always considered Ramse part of his family, making their standing that much more tragic. Instead of killing him, however, Ramse leaves Cole alive as his men move for the machine.

Cole informs Jones that Ramse is after machine, imploring her to start the splinter sequence as soon as they are ready. In the meantime, Cole searches and finds Deacon who sits naked drinking extensively as he sings “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” Cole asks Deacon for his help in fighting back Ramse and his men. Deacon lashes out against Cole, replying that everyone who asks him for help ends up deserting him after they are done just like his men and Cassie. Cole implores him that after making it through the virus and the scavengers that he can’t simply give in to a storm, a remark that reminds Deacon of his brother. Cole reminds Deacon that he is a survivor, someone who is needed on this mission. Deacon then agrees to help Cole but quickly vomits in the hall after joining. To make matters worse, Cole believes that Ramse will be headed to the core power system and proven right when the lights go out. When Deacon arrives at the core, he finds the electrical system has been taken.

Whitley then reveals that he has joined with Ramse as he allows the men to seize control of the machine from Jones. Jones reminds Ramse that they would not be able to splinter without the power core he stole, but Ramse says that they don’t have to worry about that. Jones tries to appeal to Adler after their experience together. Adler, however, throws back that all their work has led to nothing. Now, they can go on the offense. Ramse releases Cassie who asks about what happened to Cole. While Ramse admits that he did not shoot Cole directly, he advises not to be concerned about him since he is now on an opposing side. Just as Adler works on the machine, Cole arrives to hold the man at gunpoint. With the military surrounding his friend, Ramse advises Cole that he can’t take out all of them. Cole actually agrees, saying he doesn’t have to take all of them out. Cassie tackles Cole, diverting his shot to Adler’s leg as the rest move out. Cassie fights Cole to submission, but Cole understands what she’s doing. He tells her that, although she can kill the Witness or him, she’ll still be afraid of herself for letting the Witness into the base in the first place. Cassie doesn’t answer him but leaves and locks the room behind her.

Near the machine, Cassie tends to Adler as they reprogram the coordinates. Jones confronts Whitley about his betrayal, especially since it means a betrayal of his father’s dedication. Whitley ultimately believes that this was only her mission rather than his, meaning he had no attachment to it. Ramse then threatens her to keep quiet by holding her at gunpoint. Undeterred by the threat, Jones then slams her head against Ramse. Despite the attack, they leave Jones handcuffed to a table, though Whitley threatens Ramse should he ever really try to kill Jones.

Soldiers outside the building spot a vehicle leaving, discovering that Cole has escaped. To their knowledge, Cole has left to meet up with the Daughters. In the forest, the women implore Cole to speak with Jennifer since she has refused to leave. Once Cole arrives, Jennifer correctly deduces that he needs her help to take back the facility. However, she also remarks that in the times that they have shared together, even the ones they haven’t yet, she has noticed a change in him. He is becoming a leader. Unfortunately, she adds, being a leader requires sacrifice, even sacrificing someone he cares about most. She asks him if he is willing to sacrifice someone to save the world. Once he replies yes, she agrees to join him, since she has never said no to him.

Whitley and his fellow soldiers watch outside the facility and spot the Daughters marching down the south loading dock. Ramse and Whitley then deplore their men to the location, but Whitley is stopped by a reappearing Deacon. Deacon kills the lookout soldiers but spares Whitley as he fires a flare to the others. Instead of moving to the loading dock, Cole, Jennifer, and the Daughters sneak in over the wall while the rest of the Daughters, including Hannah, move to the machine.

Cole and the Daughters then ambush the lab, releasing Jones and Lasky to reprogram the machine by holding the others at gunpoint. Deacon arrive, perfectly content with seeing Cassie and Ramse put in their place. When Ramse makes a remark, however, Deacon turns on him, raising his gun. In the chaos, he accidentally shoots the older Jennifer. Cassie quickly runs to tend to the woman, but prospects are looking grim. The Daughters then threaten that if Jennifer will die, everyone inside the base will die as well.

Cole and Cassie move Jennifer to the back as Cole recognizes this as the sacrifice Jennifer had mentioned. She was aware that the day would arrive, but she is also aware that the Daughters will destroy the facility if she would die. The only way to change that path is for a resurrection of sorts through her younger self, the one who lost her way in 2016. Cole then rushes to Jones to ask for a splinter. While Jones reminds him that they don’t have the power or coordinates yet, Cole adds that they don’t need those features when making a return jump, a splinter back to the place he just left.

In 2016, Jennifer speaks with Cole just as he was about to splinter back to the future. He reminds her that there are many endings, but the right one is the one that you choose. He then splinters away, just as the present Cole arrives to ask for her help. Jennifer reminds Cole that she has never said no to him and agrees to his plan.

Cole returns to 2044. However, this time, he brings along the present Jennifer in the splinter. Recognizing their leader, the Daughters kneel before their resurrected Mother.

Cole brings Jennifer to the back where she sees her older self. Though they cannot approach each other to closely for fear of paradox, the two can speak with each other as older Jennifer requests some privacy with herself. Jennifer realizes that this is September 23, 2044, the day she dies. With that date in mind, the older Jennifer tells her younger self that her Daughters will need a leader as she vowed a resurrection. Jennifer doubts her strength, but her older self offers a new choice. Jennifer can take the Daughters on a path to fight at Titan, a path that leads to death, or lead the group far away from the storm in hopes that Cole can stop the paradox. Jennifer asks what decision she made, leading the dying figure to reveal that she lead the Daughters away from the base. However, she remarks, she would have lead the women to Titan if she had been braver. She also reminds Jennifer that there are many endings, but the right one is the one that she will choose. Before finally dying, the older Jennifer reminds her self that she loves her.

Jennifer: Hello egg. I'm chicken.

Jennifer returns to the crowd, ordering the Daughters to lower their weapons. With her older self’s guidance, she forms a new plan. Cole will splinter back to 1957 to stop the paradox while Cassie, Ramse, and the Daughters will take the fight to Titan. Jones reminds her that the machine does not have enough power for two trips, but Jennifer responds that they will not splinter to Titan. Using her guidance, the Daughters will navigate through the storm to Titan on land.

The groups prepare for their separate missions. Cole reminds Ramse and Cassie that the Witness is always one step ahead of them, so they must be careful. Ramse reminds him that they know what to do, but Cassie leaves without looking at Cole. As the storm reaches its peak, Jones preps Cole to be sent back to the beginning of 1957 with nearly a year to track down and stop the paradox. However, without the base, she warns, there will be no way of bringing him back. Nevertheless, Cole plans to leave before Jones calls back her thanks for his belief in her. The two then share a hug before Cole splinters to 1957.

Cassie, Ramse, Jennifer, and the Daughters begin their trek to Titan. Looking back, Cassie and Ramse spot the storm engulfing the facility. Without sharing a word, Cassie immediately runs back to the base. Before the storm settles, Cassie has Jones splinter her to follow Cole in the past.

The storm finally takes over the base as the building crumbles under the temporal force. Lasky is incinerated by the force as Jones and Hannah try to find another way out of the lab. The two are separated by a blast. With no time left, Jones orders Hannah to leave without her. Despite her own wishes, Hannah obliges, finally referring to Jones as her mother. Now alone, Jones stands by her machine as the storm engulfs her as well.

In 1957, Cole arrives at the Emerson Hotel. There, he is surprised to find a just-arriving Cassie who tells him that she doesn’t want to be afraid anymore.

Notes from 2044

• Anyone spot that brief moment between 2016 Jennifer and Deacon? Perhaps there may be another connection on the horizon.
• For those who didn't catch Jennifer's reference, the line about “Mayday mayday! Terrorists have taken over the Natakomi building in Century City!” is from the original Die Hard.
• Apparently, Deacon was a fan of The Breakfast Club after endlessly singing "Don't You (Forget About Me)."

The Geekcap: 12 Monkeys "Fatherland"

In 2016 Berlin, Olivia enters a building that, according to her guide, had been abandoned for fifty years. When he questions what happened to the place, she responds it was a betrayal.

In 2044, a group led by Deacon and Whitley searches around the area for more data on the storm. Deacon questions Whitley if he’s sure that this will help Jones, but Whitley instead remarks how most Deacon’s men have already gone AWOL. He questions why Deacon chooses to stay. Suddenly, they spot a young boy wandering around the area. They ask him where his parents are, but he replies that they are gone, likely caught up in the storm. The red storm then rages further, forcing the party to retreat back to the base. Whitley tries to grab the boy, but Deacon pulls him back. The boy then wanders towards the red storm.

Back at the base, Jones calculates that they have approximately five days before the red storm engulfs their lab as well. She tells Cole that she believes they can push back the storm by preventing the last primary paradox in 1957. Through her research, she believes that the event took place at a factory explosion in New York, a disaster that caused the deaths of hundreds. Such destruction could have been caused by a paradox.

Cole relays this new mission to Ramse and Cassie who are less optimistic about the plan. Cole believes they could prevent the explosion, but the two argue that they have no clear way to locate the primary or a guarantee that the storms will stop. Instead, they offer a new plan using the Keeper’s research. They have tracked Dr. Kirshner as a man who previously worked on Nazi experimentation and taken by foreign services in 1961. According to the redacted files, he was linked to both Titan and the Witness. With this time, Ramse and Cassie argue that they could end the mission altogether. Although Adler argues that they could have enough power for both missions, Cole insists that they work on 1957 first since they have no time to consider the possibility of 1961’s options. Ramse and Cassie argue their option, leading Jones to finally yield to Cole. Jones ultimately supports Cole’s plan of bringing hope back to the base as opposed to Ramse and Cassie’s plan of vengeance. They plan for 1957.

Jones: If I were being forced to bet my life on a mission, I’d prefer it would be one of hope rather than revenge.

Down the hall, Ramse speaks with Adler, questioning why he would oppose helping them stop the Witness himself. Adler remarks that he understands Ramse’s desire for revenge, having lost a son himself to the plague. However, he reiterates that he doesn’t make the decisions. He only programs the machine.

As Cassie prepares for the trip, Deacon enters her room. After hearing that she is about to leave once again, he has decided to give her a real goodbye. He recalls when he first saw her on television as a kid providing hope to the masses in the midst of the plague. Cassie, however, sees through Deacon’s goodbye and discourages his advances. She reminds him that they have only spent one night together after being surrounded by scavengers and her gas mask had broken. In the end, she emphasizes that they cannot have anything in the midst of the turmoil. Disappointed, he leaves.

Cole, Ramse, and Cassie then splinter to the past. As they wait to consider their next move, the three go to the bar of the Emerson Hotel. Cole apologizes for his attitude towards their plan and thanks Cassie and Ramse for agreeing to his mission. The three toast to their work, but Cole’s drink causes him to stir. He then hears a report on a television remarking on the year 1961. He passes out just as he realizes that Cassie and Ramse have changed the plan.

Cole then reawakens in the hotel room. He finds that their guns and identification has been taken, leaving him behind. Frustrated, Cole then spots the picture of himself and Cassie from 1944. From that memory, he then contacts FBI agent Robert Gale for help. An older Gale reveals that he has been tracking the female messenger from 1944, but the search has caused his wife to leave him as well as a developing drinking problem. Still, he has also found Ramse and Cassie’s fake identification in Berlin. However, he notes that, with the construction of the Berlin Wall, it will be more urgent for them to find Kirshner as he is wanted by the governments within the area. Gale offers advice as an old friend, though Cole remarks that they have supposedly only met once, that he should distance himself from his loyalty for this case. Despite Cole’s insistence to follow his friends, Gale agrees to help.

In East Berlin, Cassie and Ramse track Kirshner to an opera. Reports state that he was killed by government forces from this night, so they must sneak him out before that happens. Cassie secretly sends a message for him to meet them outside the building, but the two quickly spot officers looking to capture Kirshner. Cassie distracts the agents while Ramse sneaks the man out the show. However, once they leave the building, they are surrounded by officers at gunpoint, forcing them to give up the man.

The officers immediately interrogate and torture Kirshner for his crimes, though he claims to be innocent. To Cassie and Ramse, they question why they wanted to evacuate Kirshner. They respond that they only want to question Kirshner about Titan and the Witness. Once that happens, they will gladly let him die. The officers, however, only become more suspicious upon seeing their fake identification. If they are not a part of the CIA, they could be part of something worse.

Gale: Nefarious characters coalesce around you like bum hairs in a drain.

Meanwhile, the FBI, including Gale, track down the Mossad agents as well as Cassie and Ramse. Unfortunately for Cole, the agency also considers Cassie and Ramse to be Nazi sympathizers after their attempted rescue of Kirshner. When Gale shows him the FBI file on the event, Cole recognizes the information from Cassie and Ramse’s redacted file. He asks Gale to find a way in, but Gale reminds him that it’s not possible to legally sneak his friends out the country. Still, Cole plans to find his friends.

In 2044, Adler admits to Jones that he changed the location to 1961, though the tether only gives the three four days until they return. Jones denounces Adler for betraying them, but Adler responds that she has forced him to wait ten years for revenge for the death of his son. Nevertheless, Jones orders him to be seized and confined to his room for his defiance.

In 1961, the Mossad officers continue to question Ramse and Cassie’s motives since they are not members of the CIA or FBI. They move to torture Ramse and eventually Cassie, who reiterates that they just want to ask Kirshner a question. Before they can go further, Cole and Gale arrive to take out the officers and free Cassie and Ramse. Cole orders them to leave, but Cassie insists they stay for Kirshner’s connections to Titan. Cole remarks that the only reason Titan and the Witness appeared on the redacted file was because of this very moment from her comments on Titan and the Witness. They were chasing their own tails. Cassie refuses to believe there’s no connection and moves to speak with Kirshner herself. There, they discover Kirshner wearing a medallion with the same symbol from Titan.

Kirshner then explains his connection with the symbol. As a young man, he came across a man who “witnessed the future” and told him about his potential. When the Witness predicted the events and experiments of the war, Kirshner grew more fascinated by the development and assisted in Nazi organizations under the eugenics program. After the Witness predicted the plague, Kirshner began experimenting on breeding not only immunity but a stronger human being. In other words, he was designing a new humanity. Cole recognizes that Kirshner might have been discovered to create the messengers. Kirshner, recognizing Cole’s name from the words of the Witness, confirms that he has a lab in East Berlin where he is currently conducting a new experiment as the “father” of a new humanity. If they can take out this experiment, they can eliminate the messengers and stop the paradoxes altogether. Kirshner warns that they would have to hurry since he is being watched, and they still need to sneak past the wall.

Cole, Cassie, Ramse, Gale, and Kirshner sneak by the wall where officers are watching the area. Ramse then distracts the guards while the others attempt to escape. However, Kirshner knocks against their hiding spot, causing a noise that alerts the guards to start shooting. In the chaos, Gale moves the others out by taking the bulk of the shots himself, effectively killing him before Cole’s eyes. Ramse reminds Cole that they can still complete what they want: stopping the messengers.

The rest of the group find the lab, located in the same building Olivia visits more than fifty years later. There, Kirshner reveals that he has created and kept a young girl. He states that the Witness had given him a woman whom he used to cultivate the eggs to create a new human. With the girl’s blood, the Army can effectively create the messengers. Off to the corner, however, the three spot something more surprising: the Word of the Witness, including their names. Before they can go further, they are interrupted by gun-wielding soldiers led by the female messenger from 1944, the woman who assisted in the experiment. Because of Kirshner’s betrayal, she proceeds to shoot against the crowd, planning to evacuate the girl. Kirshner is shot as Cassie tries to revive him. Just as she tries to move, however, she splinters back to the future. In the chaos, Ramse has a clear shot to take out the girl. Instead, against Cole’s wishes, he uses this time to rip a piece of the Word, one that details the location of Titan. The two then splinter back to the future as the army escapes.

Following the escape, the messenger takes the girl, a young Olivia, to a house where she will be protected. The messenger reassures her that she has a purpose to fulfill, and, under the Witness, she will be safe. In 2016, the present Olivia remembers these words as she regains the strength to walk with her developed system. She visits the grave of the female messenger, marked with a plaque reading “Our Mother.” At that moment, she renounces her dedication to the Army since they have forsaken her.

In 2044, the three return to the lab, awaiting Cassie and Ramse to be taken for their tampering. This time, Cole orders them to be taken since they made the call to betray him. Cassie and Ramse are then taken from the base. Because of their diversion, the base only has hours before the red storm engulfs them all.

• According to the timeline, Olivia was created using the eggs of the female messenger. In turn, Olivia's blood was used to create the messengers who were sent back in time to create Olivia. Talk about a chicken vs. egg scenario.
• According to the location, Titan is located somewhere in Colorado.

The Geekcap: 12 Monkeys "Hyena"

At the J.D. Peoples Psychiatric Facility, the Pallid Man receives a message. As soon as he makes his way to a room, he receives a call from Dr. Barbara. Dr. Barbara turns out to be Jennifer Goines who taunts the man with her own plans. She marches through the building with weapons purchased from her father’s money to set the female patients free as revenge for keeping her trapped. The women trap and kill the doctor that secured their incarceration along with Jennifer’s father Leland, splattering his blood everywhere. As a final mark against the man, Jennifer hangs the body of the dead doctor near a splattered painting of the monkey’s natural enemy: the hyena.

In 2044, Whitley reports more casualties of the red storm. Camps surrounding the area are filled with skeleton bodies or men turned into infants as time shifts around them. Cole remarks that preventing the paradox death in 1973 succeeded in pushing back the storm, but Whitley believes it was just a coincidence since no one can explain what is happening. Nevertheless, Jones believes that they have tracked another paradox occurrence between 1951 and 1973. If they can track down the primary in that time period, they can likely push back the storm. Cole decides to ask Jennifer for any knowledge on the primaries.

As Cole gathers weapons, he meets with a returning Ramse. Cole takes this time to express his condolences on what happened to Sam but continues to go after Jennifer. Ramse reveals that Cassie informed him on a place called Titan where they could find the Witness. Cole questions why Ramse would know this since Cassie never informed him, but Ramse insists on going on this path for revenge.

Cole speaks to the older Jennifer who, in her usual form, provides only vague details of the past. She informs him that the way they see things now with him, Cassie, Ramse, Jones and her daughter might only be a distraction from the real trick. However, she reveals that the Pallid Man, the new leader of the 12 Monkeys, would know of the primary between 1951 and 1973. She tells him to go back to 2016 where he and her present self will work to capture the man for this knowledge. Cole questions why she should be vague since she likely knows how everything will end anyway. Jennifer responds that there are many endings. The right one is the one you choose. Cole finally brings up Titan, leading Jennifer to experience a brief flash of shock and death. She orders him to avoid anything regarding Titan since that only leads to pain and death for his friends. For the time being, he, Cassie, and Ramse must stay the course of protecting the primaries.

Jennifer: A wise man once told me there are many endings, but the right one is the one you choose.

Cole reiterates this advice to Cassie and Ramse who are not too happy about having their revenge shelved for another wild goose chase. Cole reminds Cassie that she didn’t even inform him on seeing Titan in the Witness’s head, though Cassie just replies he would have thought she was crazy. Regardless of the connection, he states that it has to wait while he goes back in time to secure the location of the last primary. Cassie remarks that, while their revenge is put on hold, Cole gets his chance to seek revenge against the man who killed his father. Cole then splinters back to 2016.

In 2016, Jennifer’s group, now known as the Hyenas, set up their supplies in a warehouse. Jennifer gladly encourages the disturbed women to fight as they track down the source of their anger: the Pallid Man. On their security footage, they spot Cole wandering the facility. One of the Hyenas, Vanessa, takes her weapon to fight off Cole, but he fights back before they are found by Jennifer who welcomes him. She informs him on her progress in tracking down the army of the 12 Monkeys and gathering the women from the psychiatric wards. Cole questions Jennifer’s choice to release several socially disturbed women, but Jennifer merely calls them misunderstood. The women respond in kind since Jennifer had liberated, fed, and armed them like their mother.

In 2044, the grown Hannah confronts her mother Jones by returning the baby blanket. Jones protests that it belongs to her, but Hannah insists that Jennifer has taught them not to care for sentimental attachments. Jones then informs her that she was born in New York City, and the name on the blanket was hand-stitched by Jones’s father, Hannah’s grandfather. Hannah asks about her father whom Jones then describes as a man about self-preservation. However, he was the creator of the time machine they now use to try and save the past. Hannah informs Jones that Jennifer told her as a child that she was rescued off the back of a swan. Now, she is told that she was a product of an attempt to cheat death. Jones informs her that she tried to change the past to save her as well as billions, but Hannah maintains she prefers the swan story. No one has to die from the machine that caused the red storm.

In the back, Cassie and Ramse pour over their limited research but cannot find any mention of Titan. Cassie mourns the loss of a database to find more information prior to the virus, leading a listening Hannah to bring up the Keeper. She refers to the Keeper as a having a database of knowledge just as Cassie has described, but he is considerably questionable in his behavior. Jennifer has forbidden the Daughters from meeting with him due to the intensity in his trade in truth. Ramse prepares to search for the Keeper with Cassie planning to join him through her own need for revenge. Ramse warns her that it’s dangerous outside the base with the virus in the air. Despite this, Cassie takes a gun and a gas mask and follows him.

In 2016, Jennifer reveals that they have tapped into the Pallid Man’s phone in order to listen in on his conversations. From there, they hear the man mentioning Oliver Peters, the man who created the virus. Cole remembers that Cassie had found the man and told him to hide, but Jennifer informs him that the army was tracking him. While Peters was adopted to another family, he had a brother. That brother came into Peters’s money which is now being used in a particular way. Jennifer deduces that Peters now works as a janitor at the Hudson University hospital. From there, the hyenas make their move.

At the university, Cole and Jennifer successfully find Peters working as a janitor but also transporting a mysterious vial into the supplies. The hyenas hold him at gunpoint where he persists that he is only a janitor now. When Cole brings up the vial, Peters reluctantly reveals that he has been creating a vaccine for the virus despite Cassie’s insistence to run and hide. The product in the vial is only an experiment, but he continues to work secretly in the hospital. Cole informs him that they have destroyed the virus, setting the army back years in their plan, but Peters is still being tracked for his knowledge of the virus. Peters fears that the hyenas will kill him, but Cole informs him that he is only bait for the Pallid Man.

In 2044, Ramse and Cassie drive out into the woods to search for the Keeper. In her frustration, Cassie removes her gas mask, despite Ramse’s warning of the virus. Cassie throws back that she’s meant to survive to leave the message that will set the entire mission into motion. The two wonder what would happen if she were to die in the forest. As they walk closer, they pass a tree with bloody bodies hung on crosses. On their chests are Latin signs reading “Liar.” Despite this warning, Cassie and Ramse continue to follow the path until they reach an old observatory. There, they are confronted by an armored man who holds them at gunpoint and orders them to drop their weapons. Reluctantly, they obey him.

In 2016, a wheelchair-bound Olivia looks on The Word of the Witness as she questions their mission. The Pallid Man replies that in the changing times they needed to develop to the technology. He believes that the future is still secure according to the Witness, though Olivia is uncertain after what happened to her. On the news, the two watch a report that reveals that Oliver Peters, a member of the controversial Markridge Group, will be holding a press conference. Olivia notes that this was likely not foreseen by the Witness, fearing that Peters will reveal the virus to the public. The Pallid Man does not respond but nearly strangles Olivia before finally leaving to secure the future.

At the lab, the hyenas prepare Peters for the press conference to reveal the virus to the world. Meanwhile, Cole and Jennifer watch the security footage to wait for the Pallid Man. Cole insists to the others that they must remain calm when the Pallid Man arrives, but the other women grow impatient. He then reveals to the hyenas that the press conference was only a ruse to draw out the man, having no intention to reveal the virus to the world. Cole insists that if they were to reveal an extinction-level virus to the public, the public will turn on each other in the fear and chaos. Jennifer argues that they have to fight back, but Cole responds that the people need to be protected. Furious, Vanessa then aims her gun at Cole, believing he is corrupting their mission. To stop her, Jennifer uses an old EKG machine to shock the girl. The remaining hyenas then turn on Jennifer and Cole. Their new plan is to kill the Pallid Man once he arrives and reveal the virus to the world after that.

Jennifer: Don't point the gun at my friend!

In 2044, the Keeper secures Cassie and Ramse to chairs as well as an old polygraph machine. He reveals that in the wake of the virus he secured copies of books and digital information to protect history. Now, he only records and demands the truth from the people he meets. Cassie immediately requests information regarding a location called Titan, causing Ramse to scoff. The Keeper then questions why the two seem to hate each other. When Ramse claims to not understand, the Keeper shocks Ramse, warning the man that lies are what destroyed society in their fruitless attempts to pacify fears. Cassie then jumps in and claims that she hates Ramse because he is selfish and sacrificed billions of lives for only one. The polygraph, however, alerts the Keeper to the lie, and he demands the true reason. Cassie then admits that the reason she hates Ramse is because the person she cares for most in the world, the one whom she sacrificed everything for, chose him over her. Ramse responds the same. The polygraph confirms that they speak the truth.

In 2016, news broadcasts prepare for the press conference as the hyenas spot the Pallid Man headed into the building. The group move to find the man while one stays behind to guard Jennifer and Cole. In this time, Cole insults Jennifer for recruiting crazy people and losing control. Jennifer responds that she couldn’t trust him. Just as the argument reaches its peak, Jennifer knocks out the guard and steals her gun. The two then head out to secure the Pallid Man before the hyenas.

Using their guard’s communicator, Cole and Jennifer succeed in tracking down the Pallid Man and take him back to the headquarters. There, Cole beats the man as revenge for killing his father. Cole demands to know the location of the remaining primary, but the man claims he doesn’t know. Cole responds by breaking the man’s kneecaps. Meanwhile, the hyenas decide to hold the press conference.

In the midst of the torture, the Pallid Man reveals that the last primary is in Upstate New York in 1957. The death will create a paradox so large that it will destroy the fabric of time and give birth to the red forest. The Pallid Man then reveals that they already had a plan for Peters. While Peters gives his announcement to the public, the man secretly placed a bomb in the basement that is set to explode at precisely eight. Cole and Jennifer attempt to warn the hyenas to escape, but, in the women’s attempt to evacuate the building, the hospital explodes. The Pallid Man also reveals that they were aware of the women’s use of the cell phone. The army uses the phone to track down the headquarters, leading to a shoot-out that Cole and Jennifer barely survive.

In 2044, the Keeper gives Cassie all remaining references to a place called Titan from CIA classified documents. Before the two leave, he warns them that the lies they tell to cover their hatred will be a greater threat to their mission than their hatred alone. The documents reference 1961 East Germany and a doctor named Kirchner, giving the two a new mission. Cassie insists on staying with Ramse to exact their equal revenge on the Witness. Ramse responds by handing Cassie her gas mask for her protection.

In 2016, Cole and Jennifer return to the hotel as Jennifer drinks to console herself. Cole reveals that he rescued her turtle to cheer her up, but Jennifer is still depressed. She mourns the loss of her group as well as the people of the hospital, believing that she was unable to help anyone. Jennifer asks if this is how she ends up in the future. Cole responds, using her words from the future, that there are many endings. The right one is the one you choose. Cole then splinters back to the future. However, moments later, Jennifer answers a knock from the door. She is then greeted by a returning Cole who bears new scratch marks on his face.  

In 2044, a meeting between Jones and Adler is interrupted by Hannah. Adler exits the room as Jones reveals that the two used to share an experience in losing a child. Hannah apologizes for her response earlier, acknowledging that it was likely too direct for ordinary people. Jones, however, responds that they have lost enough time to not be direct. Instead, she asks what Jennifer called her as a child. Hannah reveals that she was called Zeit, the German word for time. Jones then shares with her daughter a picture of her father, Jones’s former husband. Jones explains that her ex-husband gave her two things: Hannah and the time machine. Her daughter was the only one of those things that she loved. Jones’s daughter replies that she would like her mother to call her Hannah.

Back in 2016, Jones’s ex-husband Elliot mourns the loss of his machine and life’s work. The Pallid Man, bruised but still alive, consoles the man by bringing him on a new project: Titan.

• The last primary is located in 1957 while the only known mention of Titan takes place in 1961. Between the two was the splinter of the military men in 1959 as seen in "Meltdown." Perhaps there is a connection.
• J.D. Peoples Psychiatric Facility makes another appearance since its introduction in the second episode "Mentally Divergent." It is named after Janet and David Peoples, the original screenwriters behind the movie Twelve Monkeys.
