The Geekcap: Killjoys "How to Kill Friends and Influence People"

The episode begins with Khlyen telling a story to a young Dutch about a man and his daughter who lived in a castle. In reality, he describes the story of him and his daughter Aneela who lived in a large laboratory structure on Arkyn. There, he discovered the green plasma and used it to develop the planet’s crops. However, when citizens ate the fruit from the tree, they suffered from the transition of the plasma. Even worse, Khlyen discovers something deeper in his study of the plasma. He advises Dutch to remember this story as the past story ends with Aneela running in the snowy fields of Arkyn as green plasma drips from her eyes.

In present day, Dutch and D’avin wake up John, who immediately orders them to go back for Pawter. D’avin is forced to admit to John that there was no saving Pawter after her stabbing, otherwise they would be in Old Town now. In the meantime, Fancy interrupts the group to inform them that they are approaching Khlyen. Dutch tries to comfort John as he watches Delle Seyah give a eulogy for Pawter to the Quad. John admits that he thought his relationship with Pawter was a time where he could be happy like a normal person, but Dutch reminds him that she will be with him whether they continue the mission or just leave. She then offers to leave the Quad with him, but John reminds her that they haven’t won yet. Lucy then interrupts the two to report D’avin fighting Fancy.

D'avin nearly forces Fancy’s head to explode when the two face off invading members of the Black Root. They demand to know where Khlyen is, knowing that they were after him as well. Suddenly, Khlyen himself boards the ship and shoots the Black Root members point blank. At first, they are unaffected as they are Level 6, but, slowly, the plasma in their systems leak out and turn a murky black color. Khlyen reveals that he developed a toxin to counteract the green plasma with the knowledge of D’avin’s immunity. With the new toxin, he suggests that they could, in fact, save the Quad in a suicide mission together.

Khlyen: Indeed. And what if I told you we could use this to save The Quad? All of us. Together. One glorious suicide mission. Who's in?

John orders Lucy to analyze the toxin from the Black Root members while Dutch demands answers from Khlyen. He admits that Aneela is his daughter, though he did not intend for Dutch to receive the red box until later. Since Aneela was still young when she came in contact with the plasma, she could not handle the transition, and the process eventually drove her insane. Why Dutch looks like her, however, he doesn’t know. Still, what he does know is critical.

Khlyen also reveals to the group that the green plasma also contains a parasite known as the Hullan. Once inside a host, it compromises the subject. In other words, none of the Level 6 subjects are completely human anymore. In his lengthy life, he confirms that his people compromised with the ancestors of the Nine. If they could provide them with the green plasma available in the Quad by drying up their planets, like what happened to Old Town, they would be spared in the upcoming invasion. Fortunately, with the toxin, they can effectively kill the armies at the source. Unfortunately, the Black Root appears to have surrounded Arkyn. In spite of this, Khlyen reveal there is another source of the green plasma, and that is one of the original plants that grow from it. He explains that this was the purpose of the Scarbacks’ mission 200 years ago as well as why Aneela tried to kill them. If they find the tree that was taken from Arkyn, they can stop the source.

Dutch travels to Leith to learn more about the tree from Alvis. Although Alvis is surprised to learn of the existence of such a tree, he takes her to an old record of the Scarback mission. The records reveal that though the Scarbacks took something from “the devil” Aneela, the devil may have taken it back. However, they have no direct answer as to where she could have taken it since the rest of the record contains only art and poetry. Then, Dutch notices a pattern in an art work and discovers its true design is a star map of the location.

John scans the star map through Lucy, but the location seems to yield nowhere. Despite the map, Khlyen reveals that the location is actually a spot known as Archive, a ship that serves as a vault for the extremely wealthy. Although Khlyen begins to form a plan for Archive, Dutch shoots down his authority, reminding him that the mission is meant for a Killjoy.

Back at Old Town, Delle Seyah surveys the area after Pawter’s death when she is suddenly contacted by Khlyen. With the plan at Old Town falling through, Khlyen acknowledges how she had to move to the backup plan. He warns her of the upcoming invasion and believes that the Killjoys have indeed become a threat. With that, Khlyen charges Delle Seyah to eliminate the group in order to achieve what she wants.

On Archive, Dutch goes undercover using her previous royal status as Yalena. Although her family has been through rough times, the official at Archive allows her in, providing that her guards (Fancy and D’avin) stay behind and wait. Dutch accepts this agreement, leaving she and Khlyen to meet with the man as the men wait for her to access Aneela’s vault. In an office, Dutch allows her prints to be scanned for security.

However, the guard on the scene quickly turn on Fancy and D’avin, forcing the two to fight their way around them. In this distraction, D’avin manages to fire off John’s tech to allow Lucy to develop a floor plan of the ship. With this knowledge, he guides D’avin and Fancy to the service tunnels where they can interfere with the ship’s technology. After this, John is able to override the computers to allow Dutch to access Aneela’s vault.

Unfortunately, the ship official grows wise to Dutch’s trick, stating that no one would allow their guards to stay behind on Archive. With security arriving on the scene, Dutch is forced to fight them off with the help of Khlyen. Since the manager has a bomb rigged in his systems to explode if they attack him, Dutch and Khlyen leave him as they escape for the vault.

Fancy Lee: Accept it Jaqobis, I am physiologically superior now.
D'avin: You're a Six, not a ten. Simmer down.

Down in the tunnels, D’avin and Fancy become swamped with security guards while John also faces enemy ships. In order to fight back, John is forced to move out of Archive to evade the ships, leaving the rest of the team effectively stranded.

Fortunately, Dutch and Khlyen reach the vault where they discover the Scarback tree. With the supply of plasma, it has grown to an immense size. Before Dutch can do anything, she triggers the security feature, revealing the true location of the vault. Instead of being on Archive, this vault was sent in an orbit around a nearby sun, gradually incinerating anything near the tree. John deduces that the vault contained a kind of portal to transport the two, but he has no way of helping them. Meanwhile, D’avin and Fancy fight back against the guards with D’avin using Fancy as a human shield.

Khlyen attempts to disrupt the system of the vault to save their lives. Handing Dutch his supply of toxin, he effectively destroys the console, healing from his status as a Level 6. The destruction forces the windows to close, giving them some protection from the sun, giving Dutch an opening to poison the tree. However, the toxin doesn’t appear to affect the plasma surrounding the tree. Meanwhile, John effectively avoids the attacking ships, leading them to be destroyed by Archive, and D’avin and Fancy overtake the manager’s office.

John later ascertains through Lucy’s scanning that the plasma around the tree requires the additional catalyst of the black plasma acquired from a Level 6. In other words, they need to sacrifice a Level 6 to destroy the tree. Moving quickly, Khlyen takes the toxin to stab himself with the cure. Dutch argues against his sacrifice, but Khlyen remains dedicated to his cause, revealing that Aneela is already after Dutch and her team. He ultimately states that, though the earlier subjects of the plasma maintained their senses, Aneela and the others created the Red 17 experiments to create slaves and armies. He originally helped them until he came across Dutch who resembled his daughter. With this in mind, he sought to train her for the transition so she wouldn’t be lost like his daughter. When D’avin arrived with his immunity, he discovered a new way to fight against the Black Root. However, he warns that there are other sources for the plasma beyond the tree. He cuts himself, setting free the black plasma, and bleeds into the tree. Dutch hold him as he slowly dies. The plasma finally corrupts, affecting the supplies on Arkyn as well as Fancy. D’avin also arrives to rescue Dutch.

Back on Lucy, Dutch once again dreams about Aneela before John comes to see her. Though he knows that Dutch despised Khlyen for what he did, he tells her that she does not have to forgive him in order to feel his loss. Now openly honest, Dutch cries with John despite remembering his own pain. John assures her that he prefers being the shoulder she cries on for comfort.

The three then travel to Old Town where they toast to their victory at the Royale. Though John remembers Pawter’s death, he insists that he’s fine enough to stay at the bar. He then moves to speak to Pree and asks whether or not the bartender should stay in Old Town. Pree remarks that sometimes people need to leave to fight and sometimes, they need to leave. He can never be sure until it happens. The two then toast to Pawter before John goes out for some air.

Khlyen: When the nights were long, and the days were deep...

Outside, however, he confronts Delle Seyah, who believed to be in contact with Khlyen. John reveals that he tricked Delle Seyah into meeting with him alone. Cornered, John takes his revenge for Pawter’s death by shooting Delle Seyah and leaving her to die in an alley.

With that act, John decides to leave Lucy and plans to venture outside the Quad. Although Lucy does not want John to leave, she obliges him by contacting Clara as a partner. Together, they apprehend Khlyen’s old ship and begin their journey away from the authorities.

Meanwhile, at the Royale, Fancy meets with D’avin and Dutch, revealing that he has been cured of the Level 6 treatment. Though D’avin believes that means Aneela could be cured as well, Fancy reminds him that this only includes the Level 6 subjects created by Arkyn experiments. Aneela would likely be creating plasma from other sources. With this in mind, Dutch vows to take the battle to her in an effort to win the war.

Level 6 Notes

  • Clara from "Dutch and the Real Girl" returns in this episode.
  • Delle Seyah was shot, but her expression suggests she seems pleased by something.

The Geekcap: Killjoys "Johnny Be Good"

In Old Town, many bodies lie dead. Dutch is handcuffed in a hall when a man gives her a drink of water. A mob pounds against the doors of the Royale, begging for Dutch’s blood. Inside a man and Pree go over what to do with Dutch now that a mob wants her dead and the wall is down. The man is more interested in what happened to Jelco since they raided Spring Hill. Using a poison he found, the man demands that Dutch answers. In a remote planet, D’avin has Jelco captive, threatening to shoot Jelco should he run or if Dutch is killed.

The man, in turn, poisons Dutch, causing her to vomit blood as a result of lying. Despite Pree’s defense, Dutch admits that she is aware of where Jelco is since she helped him escaped. Pree threatens to shoot the man, but Dutch reminds him that he will have to answer to the crowds outside regardless. The man reminds Dutch that last night more than a hundred citizens were killed with no one to answer to after their escape. If Old Town can’t hang Jelco, they will hang the person who helped him escape.

In the previous night, D’avin and Dutch burst into the Royale where everyone is drinking and partying under the influence of the Wall. Once Dutch finds John and Pawter she knocks them out to bring them back to the ship.

On Lucy, John wakes up, at once angry at whatever they used to knock him unconscious, but Dutch and D’avin then explain the Wall’s purpose. Since it acts as a mood inhibitor, he could not act on his own free will, but, fortunately, Dutch and D’avin have developed sensor blockers to move through Old Town without being affected. Once Pawter awakens, she informs the group about the Company’s plan to poison the weak and cull the strong with new food rations. Lucy confirms the plan by analyzing the food, but Pawter fears that they have no way of stopping Jelco who maintains an influence over the Company. To save the people of Old Town, the group plans to sneak inside Spring Hill Compound to shut down the wall and ultimately kill Jelco.

Lucy: I do not wear pants, John. I am a computer.

John plans their entrance by moving through the same stopping point he tried, though D’avin reminds him that he was caught the first time. As John mourns his conflict with Dutch, D’avin remains more optimistic, reminding his brother that Dutch forgave him even after attempted murder. However, D’avin does add that Dutch is likely jealous since John appeared to have chosen Pawter over her.
Meanwhile, Dutch goes over their plan with Pawter. Pawter thanks Dutch for her help, but Dutch fires back that Pawter had already lied to them, and, ultimately, she is not ready for this mission. Pawter believes that she is, but Dutch warns her against putting John in danger for her own desires.

The group sneaks inside Spring Hill with John and D’avin sneaking through the systems and Dutch and Pawter sneaking through the halls.  All of their guns except for Dutch’s are set to stun with Dutch planning to kill Jelco. Unfortunately, the halls and bases appear to be deserted with no sign of any guards or Jelco. John and D’avin come across a power system for the Wall that D’avin recognizes from Arkyn. John attempts to work through the system but is stopped by the intelligence on the computer, Julian. Julian informs him that there has been a changeover within Spring Hill Compound, which a Company worker would know.

With the system against them, Dutch hands Pawter a gun to kill since in case they will be separated. Pawter refuses to kill from her status as a doctor, but Dutch warns her that she’ll have to act instead of having other people work for her like John. Pawter reminds Dutch that John helped her of his own free will and remarks to her that sometimes he wants to be more than just a killjoy.

Dutch and Pawter make their way to Jelco’s office though John struggles to work through Julian. Since shooting up the system could risk a nuclear meltdown, their only solution is for Dutch and Pawter to work through the computers in Jelco’s office. When Pawter acts too quickly when accessing the computer, it triggers an alarm that alerts Jelco over a holophone. Though the compound is still empty, Jelco plans to send guards to apprehend the two.

In the midst of Jelco’s call, John discovers a call to Qresh within the compound, revealing that Jelco is still in the building. Dutch then leaves to find Jelco herself, leaving Pawter to defend herself. As Dutch searches for Jelco, D’avin fights against the guards to catch up to Dutch.

With Lucy’s help, John manages to work through Julian and give Pawter access to Jelco’s system, giving her a security feed of the outside. She shuts down the Wall’s systems and broadcasts to the people of Old Town, warning them not to eat the company portions. However, John cannot officially destroy the wall without a Qreshi access code, something not even Pawter knows. With no other choice, Pawter contacts Delle Seyah Kendry for the code. Although Pawter demands on behalf of Old Town, Delle Seyah refuses to give in, remarking on the plan to develop walls all over Westerly. After the people of Old Town are purged of their weak, the masses will demand a quarantine of the area, begging for the Walls. Furthermore, she reminds Pawter, there could be no way for her to save all of Westerly when Old town cannot take care of itself.

Dutch then tracks down Jelco to a lab beneath the Spring Hill Compound. To her surprise, the lab appears to have preparations for Level 6 experiments including the green plasma. She continues to follow Jelco secretly.

With John struggling to work through the system, Pawter takes matters into her own hands. Using the transmission, she encourages the people of Old Town to fight against the Wall and the lies of the Company, using the mood inhibitors to enhance their rage. The people then slam themselves against the Wall, killing many in the process but shutting down the systems permanently.

Dutch confronts Jelco who admits that the program is used to create an army of Level 6 soldiers with the strongest members of Old Town. Meanwhile, John catches up to Pawter only to find the Wall set to rage before its destruction. He questions what Pawter had done but warns that the members of Old Town are working their way into Spring Hill Compound. They run to escape, but Dutch continues to corner Jelco. In desperation, Jelco reveals that he knows more about the program and where they get their supplies. If she keeps him alive, he will lead her to them. Despite her reservations, Dutch orders D’avin to take Jelco on their ship as she attempts to fight off the crowds blocking their exit, leading to her capture.

John: Whoa, what happened? Why is the wall set to rage? Pawter what did you do?

In the present, the man then reveals himself as Herin, a former treasury secretary for Tighmon. When Tighmon attempted to get back at the Company, he, along with other members of the union, was killed. Feeling responsible for the loss, Herin tries to appeal to Dutch’s loyalty, but Dutch refuses to tell the truth despite the poison. To convince her further, Herin allows to John to talk with her, and he asks where Jelco is. Despite speaking with John, Dutch continues to lie to Herin.

D’avin takes Jelco to the Badlands where they meet up with Borna for a weapons deal. Using Jelco’s money and Company connections, they manage to acquire a major weapon D’avin can use to take down a Company building.

In private, Dutch and John talk as Dutch reveals that she wants to buy D’avin time to escape despite the risk to herself. However, John remarks that it doesn’t explain Dutch’s recklessness in getting caught and poisoned. Dutch admits that she fears there is a monstrous killer inside her, and John is the only one who keeps it at bay, leading to her feelings of betrayal with his choice for Pawter. John explains that he wanted to keep both of them, though he is sorrowful about Pawter’s choice to destroy the Wall at the expense of lives. Dutch surprisingly takes Pawter’s side, understanding the feeling to want to keep John safe and happy. With enough time passed, Dutch then tells Herin that Jelco is with D’avin who is at the moment working to destroy Spring Hill Compound.

Using his new weapon, D’avin successfully brings down the Company building, but Herin still demands Dutch be hanged. Dutch acknowledges his emotions, understanding that they couldn’t quell an angry mob with nothing. However, before a fight can break out, Delle Seyah arrives at the Royale for a truce. If they listen to her, she can ensure Westerly independence.

While the group understandably distrusts Delle Seyah, she reveals that the destruction of the Wall has led to the distrust of the Company. Following Old Town, no city in the Quad would agree to a Wall around their area. In other words, she admits, Pawter has defeated her. With representatives of Old Town and Pawter’s agreement, Delle Seyah begins to prepare an official transfer of power. However, with the transfer, Pawter must agree to give up her title and power.

Outside the Royale, Pawter explains her decision to John. Despite John’s protests, she agrees to relinquish her power, refusing to play politics or risk John’s life any further. Although the cost is large, Pawter prefers it this way for her to continue to help Old Town as a doctor. In the midst of her loss, John offers to recruit her for their team if she chooses. Regardless of what happens, the two share a kiss.

At the Royale, Delle Seyah, Pawter, and Herin sign an agreement. As part of Westerly tradition, Herin offers the women a knife to provide their blood in agreement. Before Delle Seyah takes her turn, however, she stabs Pawter and orders the Scarbacks to kill the rest. The remaining representatives of Old Town, including Herin, are then killed as Dutch and D’avin struggle against the Scarbacks who appear to be Level 6. John attempts to save Pawter, but she continues to bleed out before dying in his arms. Against his wishes, D’avin knocks John out for the three to escape.
Delle Seyah reveals to a dying Herin that the Scarbacks work for her in exchange for immortality with the plasma. Rather than independence, Delle Seyah declares Old Town part of Qresh territory, leading to a peace arrangement under her control.

Meanwhile, Dutch, D’avin, and John return to Lucy where they discover Jelco escaped with the help of Fancy. Rather than kill them, however, Fancy offers a way to save the Quad by having Dutch meet up with Khlyen herself.

Level 6 Notes

  • Herin references Tarren Tighmon, the team's original bounty from "Wild, Wild Westerly."
  • Big Borna, whom John fought to free Pawter, returns from "Schooled."
  • The episode title refers to the song "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry.
  • Pretty curious in how Delle Seyah did not cut her hand for the agreement. Could she also be a Level 6?

The Geekcap: Killjoys "Full Metal Monk"

Dutch visits John in the Spring Hills compound where he is being kept prisoner by Jelco. He reveals that he has been beaten as part of captivity, though understands how his secrecy hurt Dutch worse. She asks him how long he had conspired with Pawter at risk for their license, but he simply explains that Pawter has had her own agenda with Old Town and Westerly just as Dutch has her agenda with Level 6 and Khlyen. Dutch reminds him that they have always been part of the same team, but John admits that he is in love with Pawter, making her agenda more important to him. Dutch then decides to contact Pawter to help release him with her status while also revealing that Khlyen had sent her another red box after she killed Sabine. When John asks why she came at all if it wasn’t to break him free, she admits it comes from habit.

In Old Town, D’avin delivers the list of Level 6 spies in the RAC to Turin, and the two begin tracking a suspect. While Turin doubts the suspect since they were members of the academy together, the two are nevertheless attacked by the suspect and backup. In the fight, a Level 6 begins choking D’avin to death. Acting desperate, D’avin tries to force the man off of him. With great focus, D’avin then manages to force the man’s eyeballs to explode.

D’avin returns to Lucy, desperate trying to wash himself clean from the residue. Though neither he nor Dutch understand how it happened, Dutch encourages D’avin to try and focus the power in another attack. In the meantime, D’avin asks about John leading Dutch to explain that she asked Pawter to help him instead of them. D’avin feels disappointed at abandoning his brother, but Dutch explains that they need to talk.

Pawter arrives at Spring Hill to find John as Dutch requested. She apologizes for actions leading to this, but the two are interrupted by Jelco, who reveals to Pawter that he had work done to dismantle the device she placed in his heart. Pawter orders John to be released, and, although he initially refuses, Jelco lets John free when reminded of Pawter’s new status. However, once the two leave, he demands a call to Delle Seyah Kendry.

Jelco: I do like a reunion. It's like a divorce in reverse.

Dutch reveals that she is planning to suspend their partnership with John until further notice. For now, she plans to focus on the new red box. D’avin argues that they have little to go on besides speculation, except that the weapon in the box suggests that Aneela is a Level 6. Dutch reminds him that more details should be in Olin’s head on Leith. Now, they should be able to speak with him for more information. Despite leaving John, D’avin admits that since his brother lied to him as well, he chooses to help Dutch.

In Old Town, Pawter and John move through the streets as she explains what she learned. From what she has seen from the practice of the Wall, she believes that it involves the practice of execution genetics. Like animals, the Company slowly poisons the weak leaving only the strongest to survive in a compound. With her own tactics, Pawter extracts blood from an Old Town citizen and plans to examine it for any contagion.

Meanwhile, in Spring Hills, Jelco discusses John and Pawter’s escape into Old Town with Delle Seyah. Knowing their location, Delle Seyah orders the Wall to be activated. Jelco argues that it’s not on schedule, but Delle Seyah uses her authority to order it activated now.

Dutch and D’avin travel to Leith to speak with Olin, but Alvis is less certain given the circumstances. He reveals that Olin has broken down from the information and even attacked his brother with an execution stick. Needing answers, Dutch approaches Olin about what he has seen. She first asks if he recognizes her, which he replies affirmatively. However, when she asks him about the name Aneela, he breaks down and runs from her to the wall. Alvis then tells her that the name Aneela actually means devil as Olin starts drawing symbols. The monk recognizes the symbols from the skin of the monk from the mines, understanding the words “Arkyn” and “plague” but nothing else. Olin tells them that it is a map of the rivers of Arkyn, leading to the green pools that drowned its people. While Dutch remarks that there is no water on Arkyn, Alvis reminds her that there was centuries ago, when the Scarbacks traveled there.

The investigation on Old Town comes up short with no sign of poison in ordinary blood. Pawter admits that she needs proof in order to convince Arune, her only ally on the counsel, to work with her to take down the Company. While they talk at the Royale, Pree interrupts them in a cheerful mood, despite his last bartender running out with D’avin. As the bar keeps running, John then notices that none of the Old Town citizens have lost weight since their captivity. After being found out, Pree reveals that, like any war, there are secret trading routes. John and Pawter decide to investigate.

Dutch, D’avin, and Alvis travel to Arkyn using the map from Olin. In the meantime, D’avin speaks with Alvis, telling him that the radioactive layer has been taken down taken down since Red 17’s disintegration. However, Alvis is able to see through D’avin’s nervousness and invites him to talk. D’avin then talks about his recent encounter with a Level 6, how he made the man’s eyeballs explode. Alvis asks if he wanted the man’s eyes to explode, leading D’avin to admit he wanted his whole head to explode. With that in mind, Alvis suggests D’avin should learn to think calmly the next time he comes across a Level 6 in order to avoid another outburst.

The three arrive on Arkyn where the river originally ran on the planet. However, the location on the map leads them to another safehouse designed by Khlyen. After some searching, they locate the entrance and walk inside the box. Once inside, Dutch realizes that walls are not translucent like the others, and the entire structure shakes before plummeting through the ground. Suddenly, they stop as the doors open to reveal a secret hall.

Dutch, D’avin, and Alvis move through what looks to be the central command of another station. However, none of them can tell what it’s for or who would be running it, especially since it appears to be separate from the Company. Dutch hands Alvis a gun to prepare themselves for what they might find.

Alvis: Do you have anything bigger?

John and Pawter track down the food trade to Karl, the former Company prison guard. While his former role as a guard made him an enemy in the eyes of Old Town, his access to Company materials made him especially useful to the others for food. Pawter pays Karl 5,000 joy for each substance so she and John can examine them. Unfortunately, they find nothing of any interest that could cause a pathogen. Pressing Karl, however, they learn that he was expecting a new, special ration from the Company in a few days. That, they expect, will be the substance for poison.

Upon further searching, Dutch, D’avin, and Alvis find a room filled with bodies in the middle of experimentation. Although they are all dead, the green plasma in their bodies retains a warmth from life. From this sight, they conclude that this was the first site of the Red 17 experiments as the bodies also cover more formulas. While Dutch and D’avin question what they find, they overhear Alvis speaking to someone in another room. Alvis has discovered one of the monks he believed was part of the original league to fight the devil. The other dead bodies were the additional ten with the monk in the mine being the one who came back alive. Now, they have another witness behind a wall eerily similar to the one surrounding Old Town.

John and Pawter return to the back of the Royale, where Pawter used to conduct her medical treatments. After learning about the new rations, John believes that they should plan to distract the route in order to prevent the poisoning. Pawter offers to use herself as a damsel, but, first, she wants to make up for the trouble John went through to help her. Surprisingly, she claims that she feels good about herself for the first time. John responds in kind since he also feels satisfied and also tells Pawter that he loves her for the first time. She also reveals that she loves him as the two kiss.

Alvis attempts to communicate to the monk while Dutch destroys the wall’s system. The monk, however, sees Dutch and begins to attack her. When she fights back, he then attempts to escape. Although D’avin worries about the monk fighting them, Dutch insists they keep him secured since he’s the only one who can tell them what happened.

The three track down the monk as Dutch tries to convince him that she is not Aneela. The monk continues to fight the group with his Level 6 status making him a formidable opponent. In this struggle, D’avin then attempts to use his ability to try and stop the monk, though he fears blowing up the head again. Under this stress, Alvis convinces D’avin to meditate as though he was a sniper aiming for a target. This notion allows D’avin to take control of the monk to make him relax. Still, when Dutch probes further, the monk fights back, forcing Dutch to knock the man unconscious.

On Old Town, Pawter practices her aim by firing cans off of John’s head when the two are interrupted by Arune, her only ally on the council. He comes to see Pawter’s proof of poison in Old Town to help fight the Company, but Pawter and John prove to distracted to have any proof. While they manage to reveal the Company food rations, they admit that they do not yet have any proof. Arune tries to remind the threat his family suffers from him asking questions, but they are further interrupted by the presence of Jelco.

The monk reawakens under captivity from D’avin and Alvis. Dutch questions the monk as Alvis translates, but the monk refuses to believe that Dutch is not Aneela. Dutch then proves herself by cutting her hand to show she bleeds. With that knowledge, Dutch then asks about Khlyen, a name that the monk recognizes. Surprisingly, he remarks that Aneela knew him by a different name: Father. The news rocks Dutch that all this time she resembled Khlyen’s distant daughter from two hundred years ago. Nevertheless, she plans to take the monk with them as they torch the rest of the lab, but the monk instead requests to be killed. Alvis offers to return the monk to Leith, but the monk insists on death. Reading the monk’s emotions, D’avin convinces the others that he simply wants his torture to end. Alvis performs last rites on the man while Dutch strikes the fatal blow.

Jelco reveals to Arune that the Wall emits a particular drug that turns anyone within Old Town’s wall into happy, complacent drones. He remains immune due to an implant in his neck while Arune still functions from having just arrived. For discovering the true purpose of the wall, Jelco proceeds to shoot Arune as John and Pawter aimlessly watch. Since the drug prevents them from reacting negatively, Jelco then stages the scene as an assassination done by John and Pawter. The council will inevitably relinquish Arune’s spot while Pawter will lose her power since the two refuse to fight back under the influence. John feebly recognizes that what Jelco is doing is wrong, but he finds himself unable to fight back. Instead, he reveals that he and Pawter knew about the rations but not what the Company plans to do. Jelco admits that the Company has planned to poison the rations but suggests that the purpose is so much more before leaving them. John tells Pawter that they should leave, but Pawter suggests to keep listening to the music in the back.

The group returns to Lucy. Although D’avin tries to reassure Dutch that the monk died in peace, Dutch is more concerned with the other possibilities. She wonders instead if she truly is Aneela after experiencing dreams and visions of another woman and Khlyen’s experience in manipulating memories. D’avin shoots it down as a possibility, reminding her that she fought to create her new identity as Dutch. In the meantime, he had Lucy analyze the wall substance guarding the monk, revealing it to emit a drug that pacifies a human sense of fear and resistance. That substance now surrounds the people of Old Town. Dutch tells Lucy to contact John, only for Lucy to reveal that John is in Old Town himself.

The group attempts to contact John, but, in his state, John tosses his communicator as he walks with Pawter through Old Town. Various citizens act out their newfound glee in walking on glass and jumping off of rooftops. On screens, Jelco reveals the Company’s plans to deliver new food rations to the people of Old Town as a reward for their compliance. Despite the chaos, John and Pawter share a kiss in the streets.

The Geekcap: Killjoys "Heart-Shaped Box"

Dutch continues making love with Alvis. From out of nowhere, someone rips them apart, another figure of Dutch. She tells Alvis that it’s time for him to die now then slits his throat. Dutch then wakes up from her dream to shock Alvis. She supposes that talking about Khlyen’s plans has gotten her worked up at night. Alvis places some of the blame on himself for discussing it, but Dutch maintains that she worries for him. She lets him go and leaves Leith.

D’avin stands over Sabine’s body as it is drenched in the green plasma. He quickly runs for backup to John outside Old Town who speaks with another woman. This woman, he insists, is the designer behind the wall surrounding Old Town. Although she does not openly admit to it, she reveals that she was placed behind the wall because of her own questions. John demands that she reveals the purpose behind the wall, but the woman refuses to answer. D’avin then interrupts the conversation to request help from John. Once he looks away, the woman disappears.

John examines Sabine’s body as D’avin explains what happened. To their surprise, they find Sabine is alive though she is most certainly a Level 6. John questions whether D’avin’s hook-up with Sabine had anything to do with the reaction, but the brothers have no idea from immediate reaction. With no choice, they are forced to stuff Sabine in a bag and transport her onto their ship.

On Lucy, Dutch also examines the body, being filled in on the other gory details. However, she questions why Sabine does not attack them if she is a 6. D’avin admits that he must have done something to her as a result of them sleeping together. Until they can figure out what happened, they decide investigate Sabine.

Through Lucy’s scanners, they discover that Sabine is actually a woman named Jenny Avery who is in fact eighty-nine years old. Despite the plasma, however, she doesn’t seem to be healing from her contact with D’avin. Whatever D’avin seemed to have done appears to have broken her connection to the plasma. Now, John deduces, she appears to be in an anaphylactic shock. With that in mind, he believes that he can wake her up using electric shocks.

Dutch: We finally have a Level 6 right where we want them.
John: In the bag!

In the meantime, John speaks with Pawter over holophone. He informs her that he will send the medical scans he found, but he could not secure the wall’s designer. Pawter requests him to go after, but he reminds her that he can’t unless he has a warrant. However, with Pawter’s new power, she can take out a warrant for him to act. Pawter reminds him that his actions could put his status as a Killjoy in jeopardy, but he remarks that it’s time for the RAC to work for him for once.

John then injects Sabine to wake her out of her coma. She sits up normally until Dutch slaps her down. She then orders the men to restrain her for questioning where they discover Sabine’s mission. Under Dutch’s watch, Sabine states that she was sent by Khlyen to protect D’avin. She, like the other people from Level 6, are trained soldiers for a purpose they do not know. Unsatisfied, Dutch proceeds to shock Sabine through her restraints to force her to comply. Sabine insists that’s all she knows, but Dutch insists that they can’t trust her. Although Sabine is still protected by the plasma, Dutch proposes that the best thing to try is old-fashioned torture. At this turn, D’avin takes her aside from questioning.

In the back, D’avin talks to Dutch about her methods. While Dutch insists she knows about torture, D’avin reminds her that they need to act smarter with Sabine. A wrong move could send her off with no answers. It doesn’t help that Dutch has an intense desire to punch Sabine in the face. Since they have no way of dealing with a Level 6, D’avin suggests that they find someone who does.

The group meets with Turin who has been searching the RAC for Level 6 spies. Now that they have a spy, he implements his own methods of interrogation with the help of an assistant named Phil. This method utilizes a machine with records of people in the RAC. With a device wrapped on her eyes, she can identify who she recognizes as a Level 6, even if they are a Killjoy. Before the interrogation begins, however, Phil nearly stabs Sabine with a silver weapon. Sabine fights back by wrapping him in a choke hold with wire before finally decapitating him. Despite the severity of the kill, Sabine apologizes for what she’s done.

Sabine reveals that Phil was a Level 6 who wanted to kill her before she revealed anything. To do this, she reveals that a Level 6 can be killed by an immediate execution. In this case, by the execution stick Phil carried. John examines the remains of Phil and discovers plasma healing the wounds on his decapitated head, proving Sabine right. Although Phil is dead, Turin congratulates Sabine on sifting out the mole.

Turin speaks privately with Dutch admitting that he is going back into hiding. He refuses to take Sabine for fear of the Black Root, which he calls a police of Level 6, from finding him. Instead, he advises Dutch to keep Sabine talking. Once that is done, he hands her the execution stick and tells her to finish her.

Meanwhile, D’avin and John keep watch over Sabine who begins crying over the death. They question her reaction, and she reveals that this is the first time in a long time that she has felt the emotion to cry.

Back on Lucy, Dutch attaches a detonation collar onto Sabine’s neck, preventing her from running. D’avin then speaks with her privately as he allows her to change clothes. Nevertheless, she still states that she was sent for protection but quickly points out that most of their relationship was his doing. She also deduces that this feeling came about from his attempting to move on from Dutch as most of his actions revolve around her in some way. Despite everything, however, Sabine admits that she enjoyed the night she spent with D’avin.  Looking closely, D’avin notices a wound on Sabine’s head that continues to bleed.

Sabine: I was the door-closer, the move-on lay.

D'avin mentions this fact to Dutch, believing that he somehow cured her of being a Level 6. Dutch, however, refuses to believe it, reminding D’avin that Sabine was just using him. As a Level 6, she is just a weapon and cannot sympathize. D’avin argues against this, but Dutch fires back that they are at war. D’avin only questions who they are at war with in the end.

John completes an analysis of Sabine and Phil’s physiology from the effects of the green plasma. From what he can tell, the plasma takes hold of the body like an infection and shuts down parts of the brain that exhibit empathy with others. Following her contact with D’avin, Sabine seems to be experiencing a shortage, explaining her new empathy. Still, John notes that the residual plasma is reforming inside her. By the end of the day, she will return to being a Level 6. The only thing they can do then is kill her.

Sabine, understandably, fears being killed by Dutch but also understands that returning to the RAC could be just as deadly. She reveals that agents are specifically chosen to become Level 6 in the RAC. Most die from either the physical or mental transition from the experiments, which she describes as losing everyone you love at once. As an emotionally distant candidate, she was among the best qualified. She then offers a deal for the team. If she can help them identify any Level 6 agent in the RAC, they can let her go. Otherwise, she reminds them, the RAC will eventually track her down anyway. For now, the team agrees to the deal.

Meanwhile, John travels to the Leith Bazaar to speak with Bellus about a warrant. She provides him the warrant to find the wall architect, something John advises her to not mention the details to D’avin or Dutch. Bellus stops John in his tracks and demands to know why he is keeping the warrant a secret from his team. John doesn’t explain the details and only states that he doesn’t have to mention the details to her. Bellus lets John leave but states that his team deserve better than that.

On the ship, Sabine helps the team reset the scanner with an additional feature. Using D’avin’s abilities, she plans to connect to the Green, the massive list of knowledge of the Quad. That way, she can identify the Level 6 soldiers she knows about in the RAC. Using their supply of green plasma, Sabine connects with D’avin, and the scan begins. The process goes off to a good start until both of them begin seizing back from the pressure. In their minds, D’avin and Sabine stand outside a snowy forest. Although D’avin questions why they’re here, Sabine leads him deeper into the woods.

In real life, D’avin tries to pull out, but Sabine insists they continue to look through the list. The process continues as D’avin and Sabine return to the dream. At the end of the woods, they spot a large silver box. With their bodies still shaking, Dutch finally cuts the search short by ripping D’avin away from Sabine. Although the process was interrupted, John discovers many names from Sabine’s identification. To his surprise, many of them were last seen in Old Town. Against Dutch’s better judgement, she and John agree to investigate Old Town for these soldiers while D’avin keeps an eye on Sabine.

In Old Town, Dutch goes undercover to find a Level 6 suspect. Using John’s tech, she marks him for further investigation. From what they see, Sabine’s insights have been proven correct. However, John is more curious that the Level 6 suspects appear to be doing nothing in particular in Old Town, as though they are waiting for something. Nevertheless, Dutch maintains her distrust of Sabine for likely knowing something more. Noticing the Royale, she suggests calling it a night for finding suspects. At the same time, John spots his warrant. With her time alone, Dutch begins investigating Sabine’s old room.

Back on Lucy, D’avin and Sabine wait for the others to return. Sabine suggests they could have sex again for the chance of permanently curing her, but D’avin is less sure since the previous time nearly killed her. However, he does let her indulge in some alcohol to numb her fears of becoming a Level 6. He then asks her about the silver box. She states that she wanted to show him her grandfather’s farm, though he remarks that it didn’t look like a peach farm. Still, Sabine maintains that her connection with D’avin is the first one she’s had in almost sixty years. He tries to deny it, claiming that the feelings she has now are only heightened emotions. Either way, she tells him to indulge her in her feelings since she feels them now.

Dutch: She's Black Root. She's not some Level Six guardian angel with boobs, or whatever the hells you thought she was..

John catches up with the woman and orders her to speak now that he has a warrant. The woman then admits about the previous test they conducted with the wall. She was hired to reconstruct the wall with a technology she couldn’t identify around a city. Shortly after the wall went up, the citizens inside were slaughtered. Those who survived were taken by the Company. When she asked the purpose behind the wall, the Company placed her in Old Town and threatened to send her family there as well should she persist. However, she reveals a possible glitch: the controls for the Wall are inside Spring Hill with Jelco.

On Lucy, D’avin entertains Sabine with a story about his first kiss. Unfortunately, her sentiment is cut short as she remarks that she will be killed once Dutch returns. In a tearful voice, she asks D’avin to tell her that she was a good person where it counted, since she will miss the time she had. He responds by gently hugging her.

Dutch continues to search through Sabine’s room until she is discovered by another soldier. This one fights off Dutch to locate Sabine in the name of the Black Root. Using the execution stick, Dutch manages to kill the soldier by stabbing his head. From this attack, she discovers the truth: Sabine is a member of the Black Root.

Dutch returns to Lucy only to find Sabine has left. D’avin admits he disabled her collar to allow her a chance to escape. Dutch rebukes his action, revealing that Sabine is Black Root. She had lied about working for Khlyen and instead used D’avin to try and find Khlyen. Now, she escaped from their grasp. Fortunately, D’avin reveals that he also placed a tracker on Sabine, understanding that his team is more important. Dutch hugs D’avin for his loyalty and locates Sabine on Leith. She asks Lucy to contact John, but Lucy reveals that John had deactivated his comms link. The two are on their own.
John sneaks into Spring Hill by breaking into the system. Inside Spring Hill, he finds the architect bound and gagged. When John tries to break her out, she reveals that she had informed Jelco about John, leading the two to be surrounded by Jelco and his guards. John tries to explain that he has a warrant for the woman, but Jelco reminds him that the warrant ended when he broke into an office. The guards then knock the Killjoy out and take him prisoner.

Dutch tracks Sabine to Leith in the same snowy forests she showed to D’avin. The two fight as Sabine states she is searching for Khlyen who would have a safe house somewhere in the area. In that time, she remarks that Khlyen has changed since he has met Dutch. Rather than be a soldier, he rebelled from the RAC and erased memory of Dutch from the Green. Sabine then recognizes that he was preparing Dutch for Level 6, teaching her to murder and act distant towards emotions. That’s why she is drawn to the Jaqobis brothers: they feel too much. With that outburst, Sabine realizes that she is close to reverting to a Level 6 and begs Dutch to kill her. If not, she will be taken back to the RAC to kill for them. Dutch then obliges by shooting Sabine in the head and leaves her body in the woods.

Before Dutch leaves, she wanders further and finds the silver box in the forest. She moves through the box, discovering the safe house within it. Inside, there appears to be weapons as well as a red box. Dutch realizes that the safe house was meant for her by Khlyen. Now, he wants her to take on another mission.

Dutch returns to Lucy to inform D’avin on what happened in the forest. D’avin asks if Dutch secured Sabine’s body in case she survived, but Dutch reveals that she left Sabine in the forest. Although the Black Root eventually dragged her body from the forest, Dutch admits that she left Sabine to give her a fighting chance. D’avin opens the red box to find the name of the person Dutch must kill: Aneela, whom Dutch believes is likely her double from Arkyn.

Level 6 Notes

  • The town that the Company experimented with the wall was named Green Wall. Any possible connections?
  • The Dutch double is now referred to as Aneela.

The Geekcap: Killjoys "I Love Lucy"

D’avin goes undercover to a street salesman. He asks for a particular substance which the man gives him to drink. John quickly shoots the cup out of his hand, revealing the substance to be an acid. John berates his brother for not reading the entire warrant and realizing the threat, but D’avin is more concerned with catching the suspect. He tries shooting, but John reminds him that the substances the man is carry could destroy Old Town in fire. Instead, John has already tranquilized the man, allowing them to easily catch him.

On Lucy, Dutch thinks about Pawter’s mother attempting to infect herself with her own pathogen in order to discover a cure. She then decides that the best way to learn about the green substance is to experience it themselves. The only problem is that they have no way of finding the substance for themselves. However, D’avin reminds the group about the substance in the mossipede. Although John states that the substance are made of different materials, he nevertheless extracts a green substance from the mossipede. D’avin jokes about how he has been able to move the mossipede at will because of whatever immunity he seems to possess. Moreover, he also appears to control the green substance at will, moving the container back and forth from himself. When he finally touches the substance, he begins seizing back and forth, seeing visions of the mines. John and Dutch break him free as they notice that she seemed to share a link with the mossipede itself. D’avin agrees since he believes he was inside the mossipede’s head.

At the Royale, the Killjoys discuss the effects, believing the substance to be a part of the mossipede’s adaptive functions. As long as they only have the original creature, they will only make contact with the mossipedes. The only way to see its other effects is to acquire a pure substance. Listening in, Pree offers to help the group by making contact with some people from his old warlord days. Some of them could have deeper connections. Sabine follows, offering D’avin a drink if he can hold it without passing out again before last call. D’avin remarks that the Royale can’t possibly have a last call, but Sabine replies that she likes things old-fashioned, like the guy making the first move.

D'avin: I had teeth in my stomach!

John makes contact with Pawter over her holophone. She reveals that in her research for the wall she came across a program with mostly redacted files. While she has been able to decipher some of it, she came across an unfamiliar term: teleplasticity. She also asks how he is doing lying to the others. John insists he’s fine, but Pawter understands that this plan is dangerous by going against the RAC and the Quad. John remarks that once the wall is down, the others will understand what they did. Pawter tells John that she loves him though quickly adds that she loves him for helping her. Before she leaves him, she teases his interests by removing her robe before she disappears over the holophone. Against protocols, John orders Lucy to erase the recording of the previous conversation.

Pree contacts his old friend Mygly who gives him the name Sam Romwell. Romwell is a notable collector in the galaxy with some remarking that he had some green magic that could control people. Noting that it resembles the green substance, Dutch asks Pree for any codes related to Romwell to find him. During their conversation, Dutch then notices D’avin talking to Sabine at the Royale. Pree quickly sees through her feelings. He tells her that she “dwants” him. She may not want D’avin, but she doesn’t want him with anyone else. For Romwell, Pree warns that there will need to be a trade.
The Killjoys travel through an asteroid field in search for Romwell. While Romwell did not garner any warrants from the RAC, Dutch learned from Bellus that Romwell has over 300 warrants from elsewhere. When dealing with him, however, they need a deeper plan. Coming to the code locations, John discovers that there is nothing there but asteroids. When John has Lucy scan the area, she reveals that Romwell is making contact with them. He agrees to let them into his ship as long as they provide an exchange. Dutch agrees to trade the green substance for what she calls a “world of wonders.” He allows them to enter his facility which, to John’s surprise, is inside an asteroid.

The asteroid appears to be made of an ancient crystal, providing an everlasting power source for the facility. Romwell then greets the group with a flank of three women as he agrees to being the trade. He leads them back to his collection which is revealed to be a room filled with keys. He admits that his collection has grown so large that he has had most of his possessions preserved by a molecular printer that dissolves the object onto keys. He demonstrates by displaying the green substance up for grabs before re-dissolving it again. John handles the key with the green substance before Romwell replaces it on the wall of thousands. He then follows the team onto Lucy to examine their potential trade.

John orders Lucy to examine the asteroid, but Lucy becomes preoccupied with Romwell’s system cataloguing the objects at hand. Romwell looks through the potential trades but appears uninterested in their possessions. However, he becomes more intrigued when he sees the mossipede in captivity, noting that it must have an interesting story. Although John advises against trading it, Dutch reminds him that they can just cut the creature in half to retain what they have. Romwell proceeds to cut the mossipede in half but only trades for the plasma already inside the insect. He notes that Dutch never specified the origin of the green plasma, securing his deal. Angry at the deception, Dutch threatens to invoke one of the 300 warrants against him unless he proceeds with the trade as planned. The women behind him suddenly turn weapons against the team, revealing them to be androids. With the upper hand, Romwell has his androids escort the Killjoys off of their ship. However, he provides a counteroffer for the team. If Dutch will trade her sitar, she can go free. John and D’avin will be forced to stay behind anyway. D’avin attempts to fight back, but he proves useless against the androids. With no choice, Dutch agrees to go with Romwell.

Romwell takes the sitar to his private room where he has another request for Dutch. While he desires the sitar, he also reveals that he wants the story behind the object. To accomplish this, he reveals a device that can allow them to share a consciousness to witness the story firsthand. With no choice, Dutch uses the device to begin her story.

Meanwhile, the androids take John and D’avin to a back room near leftover supplies and fruit. They plan to sterilize the Killjoys before they will be placed in molecular scanning. As they begin stripping D’avin, John works on a plan.

Dutch elaborates on her story to Romwell. She owned the sitar after coming from a wealthy family. However, once their wealth was lost, she was taken to a harem to support the others. There, she was to compete with the other girls in order to marry a prince. To ensure that she succeed, he parents gave her a tutor to learn the sitar: Khlyen. After sharing her part, she requests knowledge from Romwell on the green plasma. He reveals that he acquired it from his home planet as one of the first things he collected. He soon left his planet and never returned.

Android: Stop talking. Be naked.

John and D’avin execute their plan by attacking the androids. Although they prove useless against their force, John manages to link one of the androids to an interface. With the technology, John is able to override one of the android’s programming with the A.I. from Lucy. Lucy then takes control of the android to protect the Killjoys. Now that she has access to the android technology, she is also able to hold back the remaining forces for about five minutes, giving them a chance to escape.

Dutch then admits to Romwell that she was taught to play a song for the prince, but she never got to perform it. Under John’s orders to buy some time, Dutch offers to perform it for Romwell if he plays the sitar. As he plays, she sings a song which gives him visions of a new life, one that has him growing old with Dutch. This is the life one is supposed to have.

John, D’avin, and Lucy run through the halls trying to find their way back to the ship. Because of the ancient designs of the asteroid, Lucy is unable to clearly navigate their way. Meanwhile, the androids begin to follow them after Lucy’s hold breaks.

After the song, however, Dutch reveals a paralytic agent in the sitar, one that she has already built up immunity to years ago. As she takes hold of Romwell, she tells more of her story. While Khlyen taught her to impress the prince, he also taught her to kill. She listened to him out of a desire for freedom in her marriage, but, after her wedding, Khlyen forced her to kill her husband. As Romwell is paralyzed, Dutch takes a string from the sitar and strangles him to death.

In the halls, John, D’avin, and Lucy make their escape as the androids shut down without Romwell’s orders. Instead of heading towards the ships, however, Dutch attempts to search through the collection to find the green plasma. Unfortunately, she has little luck through the thousands of keys. Suddenly, she notices a thumbprint on one of the keys. With this knowledge, she scans the keys for hints of John’s DNA since the only one he touched was the green plasma. The other Killjoys continue their lengthy trek to the ship but are surprised to come across more of Romwell’s androids. To Dutch’s shock, Romwell returns despite her attempt to kill him.

Dutch accuses him of being a Level 6, but Romwell states that he has nothing to do with the RAC. Instead, he reveals more of his own story. In the past, he was taken by alien invaders of his planet. They tortured him for information, leading him to sacrifice others to save himself. In that time, they also developed experimental procedures on him onboard their ships which were powered by the green plasma. The invaders had injected him with a form of nanites that expanded his life, revealing himself to be 432 years old. With that in mind, Romwell invites her to stay with him, giving her a hairpin from his first collection. Dutch refuses his offer in her bout to protect her friends from his androids. He states that they should have been shut down after he woke up, but they seemed to have malfunctioned. She advises that if he wants to satisfy his guilt, he will help her stop the androids for her friends.

Meanwhile, John, D’avin, and Lucy barricade themselves against the oncoming androids. At that moment, Lucy requests a kiss from John, having wondered about the sensation for the past three years. John balks at the suggestion, but Lucy remarks that this could be his first time kissing a robot. With that in mind, John and Lucy share a kiss before the androids burst through their defense. In an effort to protect the others, Lucy sacrifices herself for the others to escape.

John and D’avin find their way back to the ship, but Lucy is prevented from leaving from Romwell’s hacking. Dutch and Romwell catch up with the others, but the androids are close behind them. In desperation, D’avin comes up with a solution using the remainder of Dutch’s plasma. He pours the substance over one of the crystals in the asteroid, causing an explosive force. Using his abilities, D’avin tosses the crystal towards the androids, giving the team a chance to escape.

On Lucy, D’avin apologizes to Dutch about wasting their only supply of the green plasma, but Dutch is satisfied that he fought back for them. Despite what happened, D’avin admits that for the first time in a while, he felt good about himself. With that feeling, plan to return to Old Town.

John: Rich girlfriends are the best.

Dutch meets up with Romwell as he eventually accepts the loss of his collection. She gives to him safe passage through Westerly with the help of Bellus, and he reveals that he made a copy of the green substance for Dutch to receive, fearing that whatever took him could very well return to the Quad. Before he leaves, he remarks that centuries of life people begin to remind him of others. Dutch, however, reminds him of no one. He then remarks that not everybody can have a happy ending, so she must secure her happiness when she can. Taking his words to heart, Dutch flies back to Leith to finally consummate her relationship with Alvis.

With Dutch on Leith and D’avin in Old Town, John contacts Pawter to discuss his research. She suddenly arrives face-to-face through his holophone as he elaborates what he found. The term teleplasticity had to do with EMRs disrupting thought patterns. Although he does not know much about the work, he has located the architect of the design hiding out in Old Town. In the meantime, Pawter reveals that she has really infiltrated the ship with Lucy’s help as well as the procurement of a private jet. The two then consummate their own relationship.

When Dutch wakes up in bed with Alvis, he then discusses his findings from Olin’s transmission.  He discovers an ancient code which relates to an old Scarback story regarding the tree of life. Its elixir was said to enhance life, reminding the two of the green substance. While Alvis had previously thought the story to be metaphorical, he then considers that they story led to the creation of the Scarback tradition. The older monks cut themselves not to provide penance but to prove that they could still bleed.

Finally, D’avin returns to Old Town to deliver a special gift to Sabine: peaches. To show her gratitude, Sabine and D’avin indulge themselves in a night of sex. In the morning, Sabine remarks that she is happy, but suddenly, she stops. Her eyes begin to leak with the green plasma, causing her to seize back and forth. D’avin tries to help her as she oozes more of the substance from her body.

Level 6 Notes

  • The episode title "I Love Lucy" refers to the popular sitcom I Love Lucy.
  • This marks the first time that Pawter and John have said "I love you"...indirectly.
  • The android that "played" Lucy in the scene is actually Tamsen McDonough, the voice behind Lucy!
  • Romwell, who is 432 years old, says that Dutch doesn't remind him of anyone. Considering the vision of Dutch on Arkyn occurred 200 years ago, could this mean that Khlyen was right about the figure not being her?
