Archer Review: Archer Dreamland: Auflösung

 

 

All good things must come to an end and this season of Archer was one of my favorites. The season finale aired last night and had many shocking twists, laughter, and intense action sequences.  The scenes were more intense which could be the reason the show went to FXX allowing it to get away with more adult content.  Once the review is concluded you’ll see the content of which I refer to, so without further a due let’s discuss the last episode of Archer Dreamland, “Auflösung.”  There are SPOILERS ahead you have been warned.

The previous episode ended with Trexler telling Archer that Mother had killed Woodhouse. This episode picks up moments after with the entire car in silence. Poovey speaks up first which causes Archer to point his gun at her and ask Trexler to repeat what he said. Trexler says that she didn’t kill him directly but probably had that big henchman do the dirty work.  The scene changes to that henchman rubbing Charlotte's head and Mother asking him to tie up loose ends which involve killing Charlotte. So, he goes downstairs to retrieve a shovel.

Back to the car with Archer but now everyone is now tied up, and Archer announces they are heading to Dreamland. After some irritating remarks, Archer then gags everyone with a sock and tells another joke. No one can answer because they're gagged, but it doesn’t stop Archer from answering his joke.  The next scene shows Dutch who’s is stealing a car by throwing the driver out of the car. There is still a woman in the vehicle with him as he drives away. Once again, another woman is forced to jump out of a moving car.

We find Krieger making more of the blue stuff that Dutch needs to survive, and he is interrupted by the henchmen. He came down for a shovel, and Krieger yells at him in German not to get it dirty or least clean it when he is done.  But that doesn’t matter anymore has they hear Archer voice coming from upstairs. He has Lana, Trexler, Poovey, and Cyril tied up on the stage and removes the gag as Mother and Charlotte enter. Mother immediately ask what is going on here and Archer points the gun at her and Charlotte motioning them to sit on the stage as well.

 

 

 

 

Archer also takes more drugs as Mother tells him that Trexler is lying about her involvement. The discussion goes back and forth with each throwing blame until there is a massive crash. The entire front entrance is torn apart by non-other than Dutch who is here for the blue stuff. So, it is an unfortunate coincidence for our gang that brings them all together.  Krieger pops up with the blue stuff that Dutch needs and shows everyone his involvement in making Dutch a robot.

 

The henchmen attempt to take down Dutch and is thrown to the side very quickly. Which causes Krieger to think again about giving Dutch the blue stuff if he is a killer.  Dutch is about to take the blue stuff then Archer intervene and is thrown into the bar. Dutch then reveals that he killed Woodhouse “just to see is lights go out,” which makes Archer furious. Dutch takes the blue stuff and then grabs Archer by the throat and starts choking the life out him and enjoying every minute of it.  Krieger who is reluctant to kill his creation orders his robotic dogs to kill Dutch. They tear him apart and break his neck in the process which kills him instantly.

The dogs continue to rip him apart even when ordered to stop by Krieger. So, Charlotte has a bright idea to throw a chair at them. That causes them to turn their attention to the others and as they are about to attack the henchmen intervenes. He kills both dogs which were hard to watch as he rips their jaws all the way back.  That was the content that I mentioned earlier which was intense.  The henchmen then demonstrate to Charlotte his affection which she rudely rejects.

During the chaos, everyone is untied by Poovey which leads Cyril and Poovey to try to walk away with the ransom money. They are stopped by Lana and Poovey reveals she is a T-man and Archer clarifies that it is treasury agent.  Mother grabs Archer's gun and points it at Lana.  Mother ask if she been spying on her operations and planning to take her down. Lana calmly tells her that her colleagues know where she is but there is a bang. Lana is shot by Mother right in the gut which shock Mother because she didn’t mean to shoot. Apparently, the gun has a hair trigger which Poovey doesn’t believe. So, Poovey takes the gun and ends up shooting Lana another six times. 

Lana dies in Archer's arms which leaves him to say things that stood out but not sure yet how they could be important later. He tells Poovey no one can survive being shot seven times not even in a parallel universe.  Is this about Archer’s condition back in the real world?  After mourning Lana’s death for 10 seconds he goes to the ransom money and finds that there is none, the bag is filled with pornographic incest magazines. The scene moves to Cecil who is marrying Trinette at the hospital.

The next scene shows Archer at Woodhouse grave as he pays his partner respect. The final scene is with Poovey who returns home to find all the Chinese women gone which causes her to break down in tears. The credits roll, and we see that the show was dedicated to George Coe who played Woodhouse and passed away a few years ago.  That wrapped up Dreamland which was a crazy ride but was very enjoyable. I’m not sure what next season will bring, but I do know that there is only two season left in this series. So, there is a conclusion in sight by the creators, and I trust they have a satisfying ending for Archer in mind.  Till then I’ll look forward to entering the danger zone again with Archer and all the other insanely funny characters next season.

Archer Review: Archer Dreamland “Gramercy, Halberd!”

The penultimate episode has aired and the season finale will air this Wednesday. This episode was non-stop humor and action, and the animation was fantastic and expressed the story perfectly.   The episode revealed some jaw-dropping secrets that I can’t wait to talk about in this review. So, without further a due let discuss the episode before the season finale, Archer Dreamland “Gramercy, Halberd!”

 

 

 

The episode begins where the other stopped at, with one of the creepiest scenes ever to air on Archer. The dead bodies positioned to look like the Last Supper and Dutch walking up to the rest of our characters with a lighted cigarette. Of course, Archer opens his mouth and says something stupid to Dutch about his outfit being lame. Hearing Archer’s voice again pushes Dutch to realize that Archer was responsible for running over his feet which in turn made him into a cybernetic freak. So, he punches Archer so hard that he tossed across the room over toward Trexler.

 

 

Dutch then switches his attention over toward Poovey and is about to reveal that she was also behind the missing Chinese women. But before he can Poovey points a gun at him and shoots which missed him completely. Dutch starts dodging all their bullets like Wonder Women with her bracelets.  That blocking resulted in Cecil getting shot three times. While Dutch was distracted, Archer took Trexler to the pantry in the kitchen and grabbed some meat for his badly bruised face.  Archer then starts to smack Trexler with meat to get him to get ahold of himself. He then asks if his face looks bad because he can’t feel much after getting high on two drugs that probably shouldn't be mixed.

 

With Archer and Trexler hiding out the others try to escape from Dutch by blocking the door and handcuffing his arms. Neither works, and they realize that he is a robot which brings us back to Archer and Trexler. He reviles that he found a guy through another guy who is Nazi scientist who made Dutch the way he is now.  The others finally get outside, and they decide to take Cecil to the hospital, and they send Trinette in Cecil’s car to take him there. The others are in Mexican standoff because Lana wants to arrest them. But they continue to make fun of her being T-man which is a Treasury agent and not Transvestite which they keep alluding to when that is brought up.

Meanwhile back in the house, Dutch is looking for Archer and Trexler who are going upstairs instead of leaving the house because Archer is still high and shouldn’t be making the decisions. They hear in the distance Dutch breaking and smashing thing with a halberd. While he is doing so, he talks about losing track of time and not knowing when he needs the concoction that will keep alive.  Archer and Trexler are shimming down the drain pipe, and Dutch appears and breaks the pipe sending the two crashing down to the ground.

 

There is a quick scene with Mother talking to the bouncer about tying up loose ends by killing Charlotte. The bouncer seems sad for a moment because he has grown to like her which seems unlikely to fall for that crazy lady.  But whatever floats your boat, right? So back at the house Archer and Trexler run up to others yelling at them to get in the car. Lana says they are under arrest, but Archer says if you want to stop someone arrests him referring to Dutch. He jumps from the balcony like a comic superhero. Which causes them to get in the car quickly and Archer drives the car into Dutch before pulling out into the street. Unfortunately, Dutch is still hanging on to the car with his halberd.

 

They get him to let go, and then Lana goes back to talking about taking them to her headquarters but is interrupted by Dutch following behind on his motorcycle. Cyril starts to fire but of course, he misses, and the other do the same. Leaving Archer to tell Lana to grab the wheel so he can jump onto the motorcycle. The others find that too crazy to believe and Dutch uses the halberd and smashes it into the car. Then Archer uses that against him and causes Dutch to crash onto the road. Archer then starts to run over Dutch repeatedly and telling a knock-knock joke at the same time.  The others are shocked, and Archer yells out that this is typical which leaves them to ask how that was typical. He explains that he does things like this that bring him far away from what he was supposed to be doing like finding his partner's killer.

Trexler who is a little stunned still, tells Archer that Mother killed woodhouse.  I was yelling out after that reveal because he has been helping his partner’s killer this entire time. Which must be such a slap in the face for Archer and I’m not sure how is going to react to this news in the season finale. Will he kill Mother, or will Dutch kill him before he gets a chance? Will Archer awake in the hospital bed telling his friends and family that he had the strangest dream and they were all there; we will find out in the season finale of Archer Dreamland. It will air this Wednesday at 10:00 pm on FXX in the episode titled, “Auflösung,” which means resolution in German.

Archer Review: Archer Dreamland “Sleepers Wake” & “Waxing Gibbous”

Once again, we enter Dreamland with all-new episodes that are continuing to tangle Archer in its web.  With only two episodes left till the season conclusion, we’ll see how Dreamland comes to an end. This season has been lots have fun but has been frustrating seeing as each episode flows into each other seamlessly. When waiting for the next episode, it feels more like waiting for a commercial break to end.  Which goes to show how exciting this season has been and these next two episodes do not disappoint. So, without further a due SPOILER ALERT is now in effect you have been warned.

Starting with Archer Dreamland “Sleepers Wake,” the episode opens with Barry aka Dutch in Dreamland who has now become cybernetically enhanced. Then Krieger walks in, and Dutch decides to choke him out for making him into a monster. Krieger’s goes on to explain that before he had no feet and now he’s stronger than ever before. The only reason Dutch doesn’t kill Krieger is that there is an antidote that will keep Dutch alive that only Krieger can make. Apparently, the concoction must frequently be administered for the remainder of his life.  So, Krieger is safe but still gets knocked out, and Dutch then leaves the secret lab which is under Dreamland. Dutch wants to kill Lex Trexler for setting him up for this experiment, and I’m sure Archer is on the list for taking away his feet in the first place.

The next scene shows us Figgis who is trapped in one of those refrigerators in the morgue. Which is where Archer put him has a prank. Figgis turns on a lighter and yells out but drops the flames onto a very sensitive area which causes two men to open the door. They start interrogating him because it becomes apparent that he has cut the finger from one of the bodies in the morgue.  Figgis leaves the two of them with some speech about raining hell down on them before he departs to his office. He calls Lex Trexler who is tired of how disappointing Figgis has been.  Figgis is also disappointed in his partner who has not found Charlotte but explains that there is no need. They just need to show up as cops helping in the exchange and then run off with ransom for themselves. 

 

Archer is setting up the ransom exchange with Cecil. Archer tells him no cops but is too late, because Poovey and Figgis are already there. While Archer was discussing the ransom drop-off, Lana was eavesdropping and seemed interested in more details. So much so that she sleeps with Archer for the information which he still declines to give. That makes her pissed seeing as Archer was the only one able to finish if you get my meaning.  Archer then heads out to collect the ransom.

 

Krieger finally wakes up and warns Lex Trexler about Dutch coming to kill him. Which he thinks will be impossible because his home is a fortress but Krieger knows what he created can easily break through his defenses.  That leads us to one of my favorite scenes this season which is a complete homage to the Terminator movie. With Dutch entering a biker bar asking for clothes and then kicking everyone’s asses.  The entire time he is beating the hell out of these guys he is talking to his other self which is what Barry does in the previous seasons.  Once he is changed, he jumps onto a bike that he crashes, but that doesn’t stop him from getting to his destination which we will see in the next episode.  Krieger does bump into Mother who warns him he better not be snooping he then retreats to the underground lab. Mother and Charlotte talk about what happens after the ransom is received, but Mother could care less about what Charlotte does after she gets her money.

 

 

The next scene shows Archer watching Cecil at the drop, and he is being accompanied by Poovey and Figgis. That frustrates Archer because he said no cops. Archer once again has brought along someone for the ride this time a prostitute. Lana is also following Archer and is observing the exchange her reason will become clearer in the next episode. The drop off was at a Topiary Garden, and the bag is dropped off in the one shaped like a mushroom.  Poovey and Figgis make the first move by throwing out a smoke grenade and taking the ransom money. So, the chase begins with Archer following Poovey and Figgis and Lana following behind them.  Before the car chase starts, Archer tells the prostitute who is Trinette to jump out of the car before the chase begins. She refuses, so he tosses her out while the car was still moving. Figgis starts to shoot and cause Lana to stall out and Archer to crash.  That leads us to the end of the episode with Archer back a Dreamland telling Mother about his failure.

 

 

This episode ends where the next episode begins Archer Dreamland “Waxing Gibbous,” with Archer explaining what happened to the ransom money.  Unfortunately for Archer Mother has heard enough of his failures. So, from behind the bouncer starts to chock the life out of him and Mother starts asking questions. While Archer is still being strangled with his feet not even touching the ground, he begins to play the cruelest charades game ever.   Once he is finally released, he utters the words the cops took it, and Mother knows exactly what that means. That Figgis and Poovey are taking the money to Lex Trexler and that Archer must go to his estate to retrieve the money.

Archer still has not slept in four days, so Charlotte offers more drugs to keep him alert and awake.  The next scene shows us Figgis and Poovey who are on their way to Lex Trexler Estate. Poovey makes a comment about keeping some of the money for themselves. She has a weird flash-forward at a college where she is the parent to several Chinese kids. Figgis makes it apparent that their lives depend on giving the money to Lex Trexler.  Poovey makes a comment about whoever was following them in the chase must be pissed, and this brings us to Trinette. The one who Archer threw out of his car and she bumps into Lana who is working on her car. Trinette pulls out Archer's badge and tries to commandeer Lana’s vehicle, but Lana pulls out her badge which causes Trinette to freak out. Believing that Lana works for the FBI but that’s not the case she works for the IRS. Which Trinette starts to make fun of and Lana tries to defend and all the while coming to no resolution to fixing the car.

 

Archer is shown driving and talking but this time to himself seeing as he is now high on drugs. Lana and Trinette are picked up by Cecil who wants to go after the ransom money bag.  He calls them both prostitutes, but Trinette says that Lana is T-man. Cecil takes that meaning she is a man and not an agent with the IRS. We know the sister is crazy and he is no better but worst. He makes comments again about incest and doing that in a role-playing game with Trinette. That leads Trinette to make a comment that his family tree must be shaped like a telephone pole.

 

 

We see that Krieger has finished the antidote for Dutch, so we know that he will need it soon. We also see Figgis and Poovey arrive at Lex Trexler home which is not be guarded and the front door is wide open. So, they take out their guns just in case. The next to arrive is Archer who is still high as a kite, and then Lana, Trinette, and Cecil come. We see a shot of Dutch motorcycle parked in the driveway. Everyone is different rooms, and slowly they see blood covering all the floors, and they all bumped into each other in the foyer.   They hear a man scream out in the background and Archer believes it may be a werewolf and of course it’s not its Lex Trexler. And this scene was striking with bodies mangled and positioned in a way to resemble the Last Supper.  With Lex Trexler in the center of it tied up and a very creepy Dutch standing off to the side lighting a cigarette. The episode ends there and tonight’s episode will pick up from there. Will see how they get out of this one by staying tuned tonight on FXX at 10:00 pm Archer Dreamland “Gramercy, Halberd!”.

Archer Review: Archer Dreamland “Jane Doe” & “Ladyfingers”

In the words of Archer, “Are we jumping right into this?” yes so let the reviewing begin, and SPOILER ALERT is in effect from this moment till the end of the review.  We will divulge what happened in episode three and four which center around Charlotte Vandertunt. The previous episode ended with Archer and Charlotte being caught red-handed by Poovey and Figgis.  They are under arrest, and Figgis decides to book Charlotte as a Jane Doe which causes Archer to gasp and me scratching my head to why that matters. But the why becomes apparent later in the episode.  So, fast-forward to the next scene where Poovey is putting Archer in a jail cell. He asks where Charlotte is and if she knows what Figgis has planned. Because to him, it is evident that he will use her for ransom money to pay back Lex Trexler.  Poovey knows but will not get into any more trouble than she already is for helping save those women from prostitution.

Then Archer comes up with a plan to escape and save Charlotte from Figgis. Archer doesn't stop being that funny character we’ve come to know as he cracks a joke about Diabetes being contagious. This joke was told to his fellow jail mates who are band members from Dreamland including Ray who is reasonable for getting them into jail. The band is jail for multiple times being caught smoking marijuana cigarettes.  Meanwhile, since the band is in jail the entertainment for Dreamland is nonexistent, but Lana decides to do a comedy routine. A routine where every joke is about Syphilis which I couldn’t get enough of, and I need more Lana for the remainder of the season.  I can’t wait to see her and Archer reconnect because those two belong together no matter the reality they always end up together.

 

The next scene shows Figgis and Len Trexler, and he tells him the plan that involves Charlotte, and he is completely on board, but she needs to be brought to a more secure location. So, Figgis heads back to the jail to get Charlotte.  Unfortunately for Figgis Archer’s plan to escape is coming to fruition. Beginning with punching Ray in the stomach causing him and his band member to vomit. The guard comes to the jail cell, and Archer knocks him out and grabs the key. Next part of the plan was to be disguised as the police officer, but he was a lot bigger than Archer. He refuses at first to give the uniform to the member who it could fit because Archer wants to be in charge. The next officer they found also want work for Archer who is getting annoyed but continues to be hilarious.  They head to get Charlotte who is startled when they open the jail cell because she believes she been in there for years due to the black police officers she sees. Which is just one of many of the craziest things that come out of her mouth and the fact that these are the first black people she has seen.

 

 

 

 

They are close to escaping when they bump into Poovey who will not step aside in spite being outnumbered. We don’t see the fight, but we do see the aftermath that shows she put up one hell of a fight but was defeated. Charlotte pulls the fire alarm for a distraction. They grab her keys and steal their fingerprints and walk out the jail and escape just as Figgis is pulling in to get Charlotte. He finds Poovey handcuffed in the basement. Figgis pulls his gun out on her and shoots right beside her face.  I thought he was going to kill her, but thankfully he didn’t. During this event, Krieger manages to grab Barry from his hospital bed which we know is one step closer to cyborg Barry.  They arrive back a Dreamland and Archer describes what delayed him which intrigues Mother greatly. Which leave her to make a call and use Charlotte for ransom has Figgis had planned, but the money will go to her instead of Len Trexler.

 

The episode ends here, and the next episode picks it up with Mother still on the phone trying to reach the Vandertunt house.  And once she does they don’t believe that Charlotte has been kidnapped and they hang up. Mother than asking Charlotte if this has happened to her before and that her brother was the one on the phone. Which infuriates Charlotte and leaves Mother with a dark solution.  That they should cut her finger off as proof and that is what they will ask for, but Archer disagrees.   He says nobody asks for fingers which lead to a sexual joke that Mother tells, and then the opening credits roll. Then we find Archer driving again talking to a hobo on his way to Vandertunt estate.

 

 

Meanwhile, Figgis and Poovey are at Archer office looking for Charlotte and Poovey makes another dig at Figgis about his wife screwing Archer. Which Figgis hates and he tells Poovey to find Charlotte has he calls the Vandertunt disguising his voice posing as Charlotte’s kidnapper.  Back to Archer who is meeting Mr. Vandertunt and Charlotte’s brother who is weird just like his sister. He talks about incest for some reason and states that someone else has called about his sister whereabouts. So, he demands proof and that proof is a finger.  Hence the title of the episode “Ladyfingers.” Nothing else will please him but to see his sisters finger for evidence.  So, Archer and Figgis must find a finger as proof and Archer returns to Dreamland to tell Mother.  Poovey tried sneaking into Dreamland and was knocked out cold which is why when Archer returns she is there laid out on the couch.

 

 

He takes Poovey with him but not before she calls the bouncer a few unkind names. The two head to the morgue to find a finger to please Cecil who is Charlotte’s brother.  And by the way, the dad or Mr. Vandertunt looked dead, so there is some weird stuff going on in that house.  The two reach the morgue but not before Figgis does so the two disguise themselves and knock out Figgis. Poovey grabs something and starts eating it, and Archer decides to pull a prank on Figgis. So, they undress him and put him on a slab, but the next scene shows them traumatized by how blessed Figgis is if you get my meaning.  During this event, Krieger has been experimenting on Barry, and we see some flashbacks of his time in the war making enhanced soldiers for Hitler. And it is exposed that he ruined the experiments on purpose, so Krieger is not a Nazi and doesn’t; believe what they believe, hooray.  He does succeed in making Barry cybernetic arms and legs which caused Barry to snap mentally.

 

 

So, Archer and Poovey arrive back at the Vandertunt estate and proceed to show Cecil the finger. But he doesn’t want to see it he says he trust them and says he’ll wait for further instructions about the ransom. Archer is pissed because they didn’t have to go through finding an actual finger. Once he returns to Dreamland Mother tells him she wants the payment in 24 hours and that Archer will handle the exchange. He then asks afterward will you tell me about my partner who has taken a backseat with all the drama that has been going on.  Mother gives a vague response, and the Krieger flashback concludes the episode. So, with only four episodes to go the season is starting to fill out and will be coming to a resolution soon. Overall I have enjoyed this season and can’t wait for the next episode. Which will air this Wednesday, May 3 on FXX at 10:00 pm Archer Dreamland: “Sleepers Wake.”

Archer Review: Archer Dreamland “Bernice”

Archer returned with an all-new episode titled “Bernice.” The name will mean more once we start reviewing the episode. I enjoyed the premiere, and this follow-up did not disappoint. This episode brought in plenty of laughs and left us wanting more by ending on a cliffhanger. So, without further a due let’s review this episode. A SPOILER ALERT is now in effect for the remainder of this review.

The episode starts where the premiere left off with Archer pointing a gun at Charlotte. She immediately starts to beat him up with her purse, because she wants them to fake her murder not kill her.  She continues by insulting him and his office and explains payment and it includes her body which she says is nonnegotiable.  Archer wasn’t up to the task and blames it on a rough night and his ear hurting. Which leads her to say with much excitement I have codeine. Both start consuming it like candy while eating at a diner. 

They begin to discuss this half-concocted plan. Archer explains that she needs someone with similar features and dental records to make this work. Here's when things get even weirder as Charlotte shows him a dead body in her truck. She shows Archer the dead maids teeth and moves her around like a marionette. Disturbing but oddly very funny and Archer’s facial expressions during this scene make the moment even more humorous.  Charlotte tells Archer how the maid's death was her brother’s fault because he got her pregnant. And that led her to get an abortion that resulted in her untimely death. To put Archer's mind at ease, she promises to give another 10,000 to the maid’s family. It doesn’t help for closure but maybe clears her conscious. So, the plan now is to drive the body off a cliff to make it look like Charlotte got in a fatal car accident.  But first, the maid must look the part, so they drive to Charlotte’s hotel.

 

Meanwhile, Barry is in a hospital bed with no feet, while Len Trexler tries to give him a pep talk. He calls a number for Barry and Krieger is on the other line. It looks like cyborg Barry may make an appearance in Dreamland. Len Trexler meets Figgis and Poovey to talk about his stolen shipment of Chinese women, and he wants them back as soon as possible. Back with Archer and Charlotte, they start to argue over what to do with the body. She refuses to dress the body outside and says they must bring it inside.  Crazy right but they do it, and the bell hopper didn’t even think they look suspicious he just opens the door. Archer gives the maid a name which is the title of the episode Bernice.  But then Charlotte starts to argue again about going through the revolving door instead because it releases less air conditioning.  And Archer replies, “the regular door is wide ass open.”  So, the point is mute.  The back and forth between these two characters was so entertaining to watch and kept me laughing.

 

 

They make it up to the room and Archer starts putting makeup on Bernice which looks horrible. The two argue again and then start making out and end up in bed together in the next scene.  Charlotte begins to talk about whoever ransacked his office knew he would be there at the time.  They both get dress and head over to Dreamland because Archer believes Mother is behind what happened at his office. Once they arrive Figgis and Poovey are already talking to Mother because they think she is to blame for the missing shipment.  Mother turns down the allegations, and the two leave and Figgis purposely bumps into Archer and calls him a dick.  Which Archer says, “slang for detective so not an insult.”

 

Archer tries to accuse her but that’s quickly shot down, and she tells him to come back at midnight for another job. He says yes and then goes to retrieve Charlotte to leave. But before they could go they bump into Lana Kane which makes Archer all nervous. Charlotte sees that he likes Lana and proceeds to yell out that she had sex with Archer.  Leaving Archer mortified and contemplated throwing her off the cliff instead.  As the two of them are driving, she continues to annoy him by repeatedly saying there’s someone following them. But Archer ignores her and pulls over to the spot where they’re going to push the car over. Archer exits the car and is immediately run over, and Charlotte rushes to his side. It causes another army flashback, and Charlotte shoots three times at some unsuspecting tourists whose headlights weren’t working.

Archer says your crazy, and I’m thinking duh she’s nuts. Archer gets the body out of the trunk and Charlotte is holding the lighter fluid. Then headlights turn on from behind revealing Figgis and Poovey have been following them, and the episode ends. It is great because the viewers and I can't wait to see what crazy things happen next. The next episode will air next Wednesday on FXX at 10:00 PM Archer Dreamland “Jane Doe.” Can’t wait to see more of this season’s comedic and epic moments unfold.

Archer Review: Archer Dreamland “No Good Deed”

Our favorite spy returned in a spectacular premiere episode in Archer Dreamland “No Good Deeds.”  In this visually stunning and noir themed premiere episode that did not disappoint although others might disagree. This one article had written that the show was taking itself too seriously and that it forgot to be funny. Not sure what show they were watching because I couldn’t stop laughing. Maybe they couldn’t get the humor. My overall opinion was that I enjoyed the show from start to finish so much that I watched it three more times. Also, got to play the app that goes along with the show which was fun cracking a case while watching the episode.  So, let’s dive right into this episode, but before we continue, you are warned there are SPOILERS throughout the remainder of this review.

The episode starts where season 7 ended with Archer floating in a pool presumed dead. The next scene is a funeral scene but not for Archer but for Woodhouse and everyone is attendance expect for Archer.  The voice actor for Woodhouse had passed away some time ago, so this was the show's way of showing respect for their cast member. The next scene we see Archer in a hospital bed, and we see Lana and Malory watching over him and wondering if he knows that Woodhouse is dead and of course when and if Archer will wake up.  The camera zooms into Archer's face till just his eyes show, and then he opens his eyes. The character is internalizing what’s happening around him which is when we enter Dreamland a world of his making.

 

 

In this world, Archer is private investigator trying to solve the murder of his partner Woodhouse. Who has been shot down in an alley and the lead detective on the case is Detective Lieutenant Figgis along with his partner Detective Sergeant Poovey who is usually the muscle.  Figgis ask where Archer was at the time of Woodlouse’s murder and Archer replies with your wife.  Which is totally classic Archer so even though this is the world of his making our beloved characters personalities are not far from the those we have come to know. Archer decides not to trust them to solve Woodhouse’s murder, so he does his own investigating.

 

 

He decides to visit Woodhouse’s drug dealer for answers. Who’s is played by Krieger who is also a bartender.  Archer tries to play tough guy, but he is knocked out by the club’s bouncer. He proceeds to carry him into the club to see the club owner Mother. During that scene, we catch a glimpse of Ray who is a band leader. The entire dialogue between Malory know as Mother who is a crime boss, and club owner and Archer was fantastic. It was non-stop back and forth banter but here’s what was discussed; she has information about the death of Archer’s partner. To get the information, he needs to do something for her, and that something is surveillance on a shipment from a rival crime boss, Len Trexler. Which this immediately makes Archer step back due to his reputation, but he hears and catches a glimpse of Lana Kane. She plays sexy lounge singer in this reality and Archer says yes to the deal and then immediately goes to meet Lana.

 

 

 

It was cool to see Lana and Archer meet for the first time in this reality. She wanted nothing to do with him, so the interaction was short but still entertaining. The next scene shows Archer going back to his office, and he finds a letter from Woodhouse talking about his murder, but Archer says he’ll read it another time. We find Archer on the road to do some surveillance, and once he gets there, he decides to climb for a better viewpoint. Once Archer climbs, he starts having memory flashes of time in the army so his subconscious self his working through a traumatic event and the flashes continue further on in the episode.  He sees a crooked cop getting a payoff, and Chinese women are brought off a ship onto a truck in handcuffs. So, Archer teams up with Poovey and jumps onto the moving truck.  Archer and Poovey quickly take out the guards in back, and Poovey shoots them because they see her face. They also take out three guards in the front this time not killing them because they decide to put on a mask. We see Barry return but not as a cyborg though, and Archer does end up running over his leg which was hilarious.

 

Next scene is Archer telling Poovey she is responsible for the girls and must find them jobs. Meanwhile, Archer finds that his safe has been broken into and that Mother has found out about his rescue mission. Since it put her operation in danger, Archer now owes her which means he does whatever she demands. Not happy about the turn of events he returns to his office and a client walks through the door. Cheryl as Charlotte Vandertunt returns and is pretty much the same character expect that now her family’s money is from publishing instead of railroads. She then asks Archer if he will murder her and he responds ok and points a gun at her.  This episode ends here, and the next episode will pick up from this point.  Prepare yourself for another wild and hilariously adventure this Wednesday on FXX at 10:00 pm Archer Dreamland “Bernice.”

Enter Dreamland: Archer

To prepare you for the return of Archer there are few things you should know. First, the show returns tomorrow at 10:00PM on FXX. Second if you don’t already know Archer is alive but has been in a coma for three months. Meanwhile audiences will enter his dream world where all our characters have new identities and will embark on new adventures inspired by Noir themes.   Here is a trailer for this upcoming season let this hold you over until the season premiere tomorrow.
