Red Hood and the Outlaws #2: Dark Trinity Part Two:
Paradise Lost
Written by: Scott Lobdell
Art by: Dexter Soy
WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
Disgruntled anti-hero types are really some of my
personal favorite characters… which is great, because this comic has them in
spades!
First off, the art of this comic is absolutely
amazing. Most comics have a very good style, usually unique to whoever is
working on the art, but Soy does an incredible job with very detailed and
kinetic art that flows through each scene quite nicely. Quick tip: there are
several two page panels that do not come out as cleanly if you are reading this
issue on an e-reader. I strongly recommend picking this one up at your local
store. You are sure to get the full extent of the butt-kicking awesomeness
then.
The new Red Hood and the Outlaws comics seeks to
introduce a Dark Trinity, based off of the Big Three of the Justice League,
which is, of course Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Two of the major
players have been introduced and are kicking butt and taking names, with the
third teased at: Red Hood, Artemis, and what appears to be a Superman clone. While
the Superman clone is out of commission, Red Hood and Artemis are tearing it up
and it’s really quite a spectacle, with the added perk of sassy dialogue
between the teammates-to-be. Honestly, this issue is worth the time just for
that sequence and for the art.
So far, Red Hood and the Outlaws is shaping up to be a
great addition to the DC Rebirth line. The next issue is sure to have the
Superman clone up to speed on the action and I seriously cannot wait to see how
he adds to this Dark Trinity.
Also, Artemis has an axe that comes to her whenever
she calls it and I must have it!
The Verdict: The art alone in this comic would be
worth the buy, but the added dynamic of seeing a slightly sassier and
disillusioned version of the Big Three set to form the new Outlaws makes this a
must-read from DC Rebirth!
